R.I.P Roger Ebert.
Roger Ebert - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I remember watching him and Gene Siskel decades ago when they reviewed movies. Not as much fun as Joe Bob Briggs, but he will certainly be missed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Bob_Briggs. |
Agree he was good at his job. He did demonstrate courage during his ordeal
|
I'll miss him. I didn't usually agree with his politics, and not always with his movie reviews. But I liked him a lot. He was great at somehow conveying good information about a movie without ever (or least hardly ever) using spoilers.

RIP Roger - you did a great job!

I have always loved his reviews, and will miss his wit and intellectual prowess.

I didn't guess what his political bent was until just now but now do from two posts on this thread from people I kinda know how they feel toward certain political views.
Our granddaughter told us yesterday that she had enjoyed his blog for the last several years after he stopped his official job of being a movie critic. She said his blog was on many subjects and she grew to have a great affection for him. She is still young and sits on the other side of the political aisle so I am guessing... I thought he was able to absorb the whole of something and present it in a few dynamic words. The art of a true journalist and genius. Rest in Peace. You did your job well and faced death bravely. |
Roger Ebert's passing away was the lead news story on Chicago television Thursday night. I loved watching Siskel and Ebert when they would disagree about movies! Now Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert can review movies together in heaven as Gene Siskel passed away about 14 years ago from a brain tumor.
RIP Roger. You didn't let cancer stop you from leading a productive life up to the end. Chicago has lost a great citizen. |

Does it really matter which way he leaned politically? Perhaps he should be remembered for the really good critic he was and his excellent partnership with Siskel. Hopefully they are already working together.

It is such a shame that as we age, some of our political leanings become part of our life values. SOME of them. I was wrong to make that comment. |
Always enjoyed his movie reviews, and tended to side with him rather than Siskel when their opinions were divergent.
Just wondering if he was a smoker, and whether the cancer which required the surgical removal of his jaw bone was smoking related??? |
