Laminate color - how did you decide???
 

I am currently looking at laminate samples for my living/dining room. This is so confusing! How did YOU decide which color to go with and could you share the brand/style/color that you chose?

It's not an easy process, but we finally decided to go with Mannington Brazilian Cherry and we love the way it looks. Not too dark and not too light. Also we picked the glossy type, and I don't know if this particular one comes any other way.

I did a quick search online and find that "Brazilian Cherry" comes in different shades/colors. What is yours? Also, where did you buy it in case I want to look at samples of this? Thanks!

Dark brazilian cherry lends itself to both traditional furnishings and contemporary. Oak is kinda out. Bamboo is lighter and some choose it for an eclectic or cottagy look.

Darker floors are kind of "in right now".

We chose Mannington Revolutions Plank laminate floor in Hickory Butterscotch. We are dealing with East Coast Flooring. He allowed us to take several samples home because the lighting in your house will change how the color will look in your house. So many samples across different manufacturers look almost identical...I certainly understand your frustration!!

BTW when we look at the Butterscotch sample in the store I thought it was waaaay too light for my taste but it turned out to be the perfect color once we got it to our house (the way the guy at the store said it would be!! I guess it's because the store has flourescent lights...)

I have dark hardwoods at my current house and while Gracie is correct that super dark is in right now, the darker your floor the more dust (and dander if you have pets) that will show.

We went with Wildwood Flooring. They let us take samples with us. Even with the samples it was a difficult decision. We chose a Mannington, wide plank, handscraped-effect hickory butterscotch.
You could also go to new home open houses and if you see one you especially like, ask the sales person who the manufacturer is and type/color of the floor.

I suppose you could say our has light and dark streaks through it. We bought through East Coast Flooring. Great installers, but the scheduler gor her wires crossed and we had some issues with her. Over all, though we love the floors.

We went with floormasters. The light cherry. I saw it at a friend's house and did the same. I did bring samples home and put them around the furniture to see the contrast.

Used FLOORMASTERS. Lamett brand. Color was soho honey oak. Beautiful!

We used the flooring store at Colony.Robertos. Very pleased. We took home a whole bunch of samples and layed them out next to our furniture and through the process of elimination, settled. Our house is beachy looking so we got a lighter wood that looks like the boardwalk. Its awesome and we love it.

I drove myself crazy as there are so many choices. We ended up choosing a middle of the road...not too light & not too dark. Looked more for a nice noticeable grain. I do agree with an earlier post regarding too dark with sunlight can show the dust bunnies. I'm sure whatever you choose will look beautiful.

I have a sample of the Butterscotch at home now. It is a nice medium color. I'm having trouble as I want a brown tone - not red - and not too dark. This seems to be a good one, but wondering if it has too much black? I was told that is the way Hickory is. What do you think? Are the black tones heavy or subtle? It is so hard to picture an entire floor with just a small sample. :(

I agree that Oak is on the way out. We have a distressed hickory. The distressing makes it so easy! We love the look, not sure of the rand or name, but check out the distressed.

It's fun choosing Mary Lou because there are so many choices!! I decided on how I was going to decorate first then worked the floor into my choice of furniture, decor, etc... guess you could do the reverse way if you choose to also. I love laminate but have to be honest, mine did damage easily and I have no kids nor pets right at this moment.
