TV Garages and General Storage

Do you have enough garage space for your cars, golf carts?

What about lawn mowers (those who mow), and other things you need to store at home? How do you store the stuff home owners seem to acquire? Can you have any sort of storage container in your yard?

I believe you will see that your deed restrictions that any outbuildings/containers need to be attached to the house, and you need ARC approval.

You can add a storage shed yes, but it must be attached, built to 140 mph with ARC & building permits.
Oh it must fit within your lots setback.

Do owners typically have attached storage areas built on to their home? What is commonly done?

Folks don't commonly add sheds to our homes here. In fact I don't recall seeing any. The garages on most designers and certainly on all premiers are quite a good size and many have maximized that space by hanging shelves. All homes that I know of have attic space above the garage as well accessed by pull down steps.

You can contract for grass mowing, edging and trimming bushes on a typical designer lot for about fifty-sixty dollars a month and almost everyone does. It is extra for weeding and fertilizing. Power washing a home twice a year is about 30-40 dollars each time. The lower cost of labor here allows you not to need the lawn equipment we all once had.

You really do need to come to The Villages. So many of your questions will be answered for you.

We have a Lantana and added a work shop behind the GC garage during construction. Plan to use that area for storage of lawn equipment and install a nice work bench and cabinets. It has access door from the GC garage and an outside door to the back yard. This addition required installation of an outside light by the outside door, light switches at both entrances plus a garage light switch inside the work shop and a concrete pad outside the outside door.

I have a "standard two car garage".

1: I have room for one car, one golf cart.

2: I have room for lawn mower and other lawn equipment. I added a lot of shelving for additional storage.

3: We no longer acquire stuff.

4: Free standing storage sheds are not permitted in most areas.

Keep in mind, garages and attics are hot. Some metal objects/equipment tend to rust in the garage.

I have seen numerous storage sheds and golf cart garages added on to existing homes in The Villages. Not so much on the newer homes, but homes that have been around 10 or 15 years or more... seems they run outta space and need to make more... lol

Where these sheds at?

Ooper 04-11-2013 04:14 PM

Of course, you don't see these from the road because they are generally located in the rear of the house. But, not counting the historic side East of Rt. 441 (where there are many), storage sheds I have seen have been added mostly around the area around some of the Hacienda Hills courses. If you take some of the cart paths from Rio Grande towards the HH clubhouse, you will see some on the backs of some of the houses. As for homes that add cart garages, you can see them all over the place. But remember, cart garages added on to homes look like original builds when they get done, so you may not realize they are add-ons.
