What percentage of TV full time residents play golf?
 

Hubby and I took a couple of golf lessons and we are not sold on the game. Seems the lifestyle in TV lends itself to include golf but hopefully that isn't the case. What percentage of full time residents play golf?

Have no clue what percentage play golf. There are many who do not golf....have lots of neighbors who are non-golfers. There lots to do around here that doesn't involve hitting a little white ball, I'm sure you'll find something that sparks your interest...:)

I don't play golf.

In a former retirement community of only 1600 homes, we were surprised to find only 20% played golf. We took a survey to see if it was feasible to purchase the golf course from the Developer. It might be a little higher in TV but my guess would not be much higher. Not everybody plays golf but since Executive Golf is figured in your fees---some residents that never played golf take up the game. There are many activities in TV and golf is just one of them.

The Villages has more holes of golf than any other community (facility) in the world with 504 and adding another 36 within a year (Mission Hills in China is second with 216 holes). Villagers played over 2.5 million rounds of golf last year, losing an estimated 5.8 million golf balls. When the Pensacola nine of Bonifay County Club opens soon, its par three, third hole with an island green may become The Villages’ favorite hole while claiming a record number of lost balls.

We do play golf but golf had no more part to play in the decision anymore than did any of the other very many things that "lend to" living here.

If there were no golf courses her it would have not influenced us to no locate here. It is ONLY one piece of the lifestyle/location we bought into.

The lifestyle in TV does lend itself to include golf because TV prides itself on offering "free golf for life". But I don't know why you would hope that isn't the case, because no-one makes you golf if you're not interested. There are tons of other activites. There are lots of golfers and also lots of non golfers.

We didn't golf at all when we bought in TV. Now we occasionally golf badly. We just do it for the exercise, the scenery and social interraction. I don't ever keep score. You might find you enjoy golf more than you think, when you do it with friends and don't take it seriously. (But I'm quick, I do play ready golf and I don't smoke cigars).

Good to know there are folks who don't play golf here in TV and we don't have to take up golf to feel a part of this community. Actually, I love to bowl but I'm so bad. Wish I could get better so I could bowl on a league.

Both of us play golf and most of our friends play golf - I guess we are friends because we all enjoy golf. My husband and I play the championship courses at least three times a week, he twice a week with his friends, I play twice a week with my friends and we get together as couples to play on Sunday. We have become friendly with the people who do the same acitivities we do...pickleball, golf and I bowl. You do not need to be good to bowl in a league. Many of the leagues are non-sanctioned leagues, you establish an average and weekly matches are "handicapped" . I think the Fiesta Bowl has a bad bowlers league one morning a week. Give the bowling alleys a call and see

Many people in our neighbor don't golf and will never golf. You do not have to play golf to enjoy living here.

I play Happy Hour. We always win, if i have a bad day so be it, there's always tomorrow. We get to our favorite spots, don't have to reserve a time or a spot, ansd somebody waits on me.As for golf I tried very briefly I just didn't get it. I see people rushing in the AM to get to their T time, complain if play is to slow and then off they go for lunch or brunch. So we skip those steps and go right for the refreshment part. works for us. To the golfers thanks for playing I love to look at the courses from my CC seat.

I will only play in the summer when no one is out there. I risk the PM storms and head out.

I golf from 1-3 times a week on exec courses. 3-4 times a year I sub with a foursome (sometimes 9 holes, sometimes 18 holes) on the championship courses, more in May and Sept., when the prices are low. We're up north in the summer (where I play regulation courses).

I would not have been interested in TV without the free (or nearly so) golf. It was a big draw for me. Quite expensive to golf in many other retirement communities, and I would have just not thought my game was worth it. Am too frugal to enjoy paying $50 a round very often.

That said, I think there are more non-golfers in my neighborhood (including Ohioboy, who goes out with me in perfect weather at the end of the day to play about 5 holes before dark). Many others who only play once in a while because it is free and they live here. I think many of those gradually quit playing as they get older, unless they find they love it.

My guess is there are more non-golfers here than golfers.

I spent my life in the golf business and playing golf. I no longer play because of some physical issues.
I remember hearing on a television program about the Villages that only about 35% of the residents play golf. That was surprising to me because the place is really sold as a golf community. There are something like 40 nine hole par 3 courses and ten regulation courses. Every ad that you see shows people playing golf and offers "Free Golf for Life".
I had friends who moved here because of the free golf.

Better to start Young
 

Many of us in our generation didn't start playing golf until we were older---some after retirement. We were poor and couldn't afford golf-----many didn't have a golf course close or any "time" as we worked to keep the wolf away from the door. We have wonderful opportunities here in TV. ENJOY! :ho:
