CFL Bulb Humming
 

Anyone have a CFL bulb start humming. This bulb was in our kitchen and started humming a while ago. When I took it out today, it almost fell apart. It is all charred and melted around the base. Anyone else have this happen?

is the bulb controlled by a dimmer switch?

don't just throw it out as they do use some amount of mercury in the constrction of the bulb. It is recommended to drop them off at places like Lowe's and Home Depot......yes the rash can is much handier but think in terms of millions and billions being thrown in the trash and the additional poisoning of mother earth and for those who come after us.
They are considered a hazordous material!!!

Replacing incandescent bulbs with toxic waste.......BRILLIANT!!!

Never have seen a fluorescent bulb do that and I used them for years in CA. How old is the bulb? Do you know the manufacturer? I'd get in touch with them and make them aware of what you've experienced. Dispose of the bulb at Lowes or Home Depot and Best Buy will take the bulbs, too, I believe.

You want to know why it's humming?

I'm guessing it's because it doesn't know the words...
