County approves Spruce Creek South golf cart crossing over 441.
The crossing will be at the main entrance to SCS on the west side and Sun Trust Bank on the east side.
Spruce Creek has been working this issue for more than 5 years now and was initially turned down by the Florida DOT. After completion of a new traffic study earlier this year, It was approved by Marion County and Stonecrest residents and the Florida DOT has indicated it will approve it once the county provides some additional needed paperwork. Here’s a link to an ongoing blog regarding the SCS Golf Cart Crossing. p.s. don’t shoot the runner. |
it's for a golf cart crosswalk. NOT a bridge over the highway. As someone who drives this stretch of highway daily, i feel sorry for anyone trying to cross 441 in a golfcart.. i hope your insurance is paid up.

As a street legal cart owner who crosses 441 frequently, I am extremely cautious doing so. In particular, I keep my eyes peeled for a vehicle in the right hand lane barreling through making a right on red turn and T-boning me.
One of the FDOT requirements for approval was to increase the red light delay. So the north/south traffic on 441 will be on for 5 seconds before the crossing lights turn green. |
I'd like to see a golf cart crosswalk at the corner of Bueno Aires and 441 and then another one to cross over Rolling Acres from one shopping center to the other at the corner of 441. I don't think they would be any less safe than trying to cross on foot as I have done many times (and I know for sure that I am not the only one to cross Rolling Acres to get to the other shopping center.

EdV would this allow Stone Crest residents to cross 441 and have access to the Urgent Care or CVS through Spruce Creek?

Reading the Spruce Creek South Blog it indicates that cart traffic from Stonecrest (and TV) would have to enter Spruce Creek South's main gate and use their roads and back gate to the Terrace Shops (Urgent Care, CVS, McDonalds, Office Depot, DMV etc). To get back to the other side the carts will have to wait at the back gate and tail gate behind a SCS resident who opens the gate (may be a half hour or so wait at the gate). SCS commentary in the blog is mostly against letting non SCS residents on their roads. At the same time, the roads on the East side of 441 across from the SCS main gate are owned by the Stonecrest Developer and the east bound traffic will have to use those roads to access Walmart and places south (if Progress Energy continues to allow it).
I have heard that a cart path from the 441 crossing before the SCS main gate to the Terrace Shops is being considered to alleviate non residents entry to SCS. I believe it would have been appropriate for Stonecrest to require the bypass cart path prior to allowing SCS use of the Stonecrest roads. . |

The new crossing will also provide Stonecrest and TV residents a relatively low cost access to the Links at Spruce Creek golf course. |
