RIP - one of my favorites as well - remember many hours of listening pleasure from that man.

"Freedom, freedom......!!!
He was also one of my favorites
AND I do believe was the opening act at Woodstock I will miss h m |
Apparently he could not sing properly with his false teeth IN. Loved to here him sing anyway.
Not only was he the first in the line up at Woodstock, he played for three hours because no one else had showed up. He made Freedom up on the stage when he ran out of songs. Amazing talent.
I wish we had a "like" button for some of the comments I see here about Richie Havens. RIP Richie.
Back in the early 70's I saw him playing in Montauk. No concert, just sitting there playing. Very cool guy.
Forgive my ignorance never heard of the guy??????
Think he made a career on two songs; Motherless Child and Here Comes the Sun

My Memory
My strongest memory of Woodstock was walking up the road after parking in a farmer's field, tickets in hand (yes tickets), hearing Richie singing "Freedom." For some reason memories after that walk get hazy!
A person I worked with knew Richie thru his and her charity work in the New Haven area, so I told her to tell him as long as I was alive, someone would remember his finest hour!!!! He's now gone, but will be remembered as long as I'm here. RIP |
