Indialantic by the Sea, Florida

Keep scrolling down for great BING pics of Indialantic by the Sea Florida.......a very pleasant tiny to
Obviously, as the listing of our home draws closer, we've been "revisiting" places we enjoyed in the past.
Here is a little town of less than 3,000 souls at the present population count. It's a pretty little seaside town on the Space Coast of Florida, a barrier island connected to Melbourne on the mainland by a causeway.
When our children were very young we'd take them to church in Indialantic and it seems that Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church is still there and quite vibrant with about six priests, a school and large congregation.
I've subscribed to their newspaper and the barrier island seems devoid of problems........just a pleasant sleepy little seaside town......but its Fifth Avenue shopping district is still thriving with about 46 upscale restaurants, etc........the town hasn't gone to pot.
There is one golf course nearby, but since we are not golfers it is enough.
There are several marinas across the intracoastal waterway from Indialantic where my husband could keep a new boat......I suggested he get a sailboat rather than the huge cabin cruiser he just sold.....and he agreed; said he always wanted a sailboat. Life is short.
I also found numerous deep sea charter fishing excursions for him along that entire Space Coast right down to Sebastian Inlet which is noted for their fishing........below that is Vero Beach which we also liked very very very much in the past. Another barrier island.
Yes, we'd have to weigh the "hurricane" vs. the "sinkholes".....but we have a little time to think about it.
We lived on a canal and watched the water rise during one "potential hurricane threat" but never did have to evacuate......but if it's "in the cards" that we end up in Indialantic by the Sea, Florida......we would just have essentials packed in a bag and ready to evacuate inland..
The Villages is still up there at the top of the list.......however, since we are not the line dancing sort.....nor the Katie Belle set.....and we don't golf, we are rethinking what would be nice for our own "family oriented" lifestyle......the grandkids would love the Kennedy Space Center with its IMAX movie of space travel, etc..........they'd love the Brevard Zoo which we took their parents to years ago.......they'd love SURFING in the Atlantic ocean.....and playing in the sand of the Indialantic "empty serene beach".
One plus for visiting family members is that the Disney Cruise ships go out of Port Canaveral, slightly to the north of Indialantic. Plus, the Disney Beach Resort is slightly to the south of Indialantic. All a very short drive....up or down A1A
It's not a tourist destination.........so that's good; mainly the locals would walk on the beach or admire the view......
It seems that there is still very little traffic , if any, on South Patrick Drive or on A1A the coastal road.
The homes I've researched are right in from A1A, with backyard pools, and with the beach right across the coastal road, A1A. Can't get any closer.
Actually, no matter where you live in Indialantic or Satellite Beach or Melbourne Beach........you are close to the beach and ocean. Plenty of parking at one of the several beach access parks; great for kids with the playground, etc........just peaceful.
Nice for an evening walk on the beach.......or early morning walk in the summer time......before the heat of the day.
Our grand kids really enjoyed going out with Grandpa on the deep sea fishing boat in Ogunquit Maine when we vacationed the two weeks in York on the Nubble............so I know they would like to do it again......plus there are no restrictions as to when they can visit........if they can spend the entire summer with us, so be it.
I found a bunch of great seafood restaurants with deep fried grouper which seems to be the Florida fish of choice.....(I really miss the haddock in Maine, which was fresh off the boats.....as well as the lobster, ditto).
Lots of nice upscale Italian restaurants as well as others.......plenty to choose from........read all the reviews and menus.
Enjoying the newspaper.
Disney World is still a short drive on the Beeline Expressway....rather than the Florida Turnpike.
We are used to a small town. Indialantic is even smaller yet at less than 3,000. It does not have the massive wonderful activities that TV offers, but it does have a senior citizen center......in Palm Bay. Probably would not go to that. We are creatures of habit and just used to our own routine............it actually has everything we would want or need.....plus nice homes......all the services we would need right in town....and the airport in Melbourne is only 11 minutes away (5 miles) across the causeway. It's a nice small airport such as we are used to in Albany, N.Y. not massive like the Orlando airport........
Anyway.........less may be more in the long run.....and a peaceful sleepy little town might be better for us. Still weighing those apples vs. oranges.
One nice thing.........the Chamber of Commerce told me that ALL POSTAL MAIL IS DELIVERED TO THE HOMES.......not to "clusters of mailboxes".
That might be a deal maker rather than a deal breaker........as we like getting our mail to our home.
Since we want to have our own backyard pool.......I was pleasantly surprised to see so many homes with them already installed.......very nice homes and the property taxes were low, equivalent to what we pay now with our "senior" deduction up here........so lots to ponder. I know the "girls" in our family would love the leisurely beach life plus the shopping on Fifth Avenue.........the men would enjoy fishing off of the Indialantic Pier, right in town.......plus the close proximity to deep sea fishing charter boats up and down that coast........

The Bing pics on above hyperlink are really nice and bring back fond memories of when we lived near there.
We always liked that little town. With the Air Force presence to the north of it, in Satellite Beach, other than not being sure if we'd still hear those fighter planes coming in........we would feel safe on that barrier island. Melbourne seems like a nice smaller city; it's been a long time since we've been there. But we do fondly recall Vero Beach ......even Hutchinson Island next door to Vero.....further south.....which had the Nuclear Power Plant. This is why we believe in doing our research. Also, on Hutchinson Island there were leftover WWII bombs in the sand and surf...and a bomb museum on the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But a nice beach.
