Manned Gate House or just a gate?

I know someone will know this answer but I can't figure it out. Why do some entrances have a manned gate house but right across the street there is only a gate? For instance, entrance to Hadley off of Morse has a manned gate whereas directly across the entrance to Hemingway has just a gate. The entrance to Sanibel off of Morse has a manned gate but at the other end, the entrance to Gilchrist, has only a gate. Across from the gated entrance to Gilchrist the entrance to Pinellas has a manned gate. The entrance to Belvedere has a manned gate house but right across the roundabout the entrance to Winifred has just a gate. There are MANY, MANY examples of this throughout The Villages and I could go on and on but you get the idea. I realize that the purpose of gates is to control traffic but I cannot figure out the "plan". I can't figure out why entrances across from each other have one of each or why there's a manned gate at one end of a through street but not at the other end etc. Can someone answer this so I can move on to other equally unimportant questions? LOL

Not sure this is why but I always see those who are lost, stopping and asking for directions at the gate houses. I also know in the new areas like Sanibel and Pinelles, when a moving van comes through those gates, the gate keepers get the address to the home where they are going and send a Community Watch driver out to welcome them to TV's.
I also think it is a false sense of security but could deter unwanted prowlers.
It's nice to have someone welcome you as you enter with a smile and a wave, makes my day.

Why? Well, quite frankly, I haven't a clue! I've wondered the same thing since I arrived in February 2005!

Could it be an evil plan?

LOL. Everything in TV is so well though out, I'm sure there's a plan. The manned gates just seem random to me and I have tried to figure out the criteria in order to understand TV's plan. If anyone can figure out the criteria for a manned gate house vs just a gate, I would love to know.

My guess is that the manned gates are considered the main gates or primary gates;albeit traffic can't be a criteria because there is as much traffic coming through 'say Blelverde as there is Bonnybrook

Just one of those things that make you go, "ummmmm".

I believe it may be that someone thought that the roads most likely to be used as thoroughfares, by the general public...should have a gatekeeper.

Whereas those that only go into a neighborhood, or aren't a natural "shortcut"....could have just gates.

Then again, it might have absolutely nothing to do with that.

Amelia and Hadley were built before Hemingway...first come, first served?

If there is a double lane entering the gate, there will always be a gate keeper. A single lane entering does not require one. The plan was to have every gate manned but the powers that be decided against that so now it's just the double lane ones entering whatever Village they think needs directions in.

Not so. There are many unmanned gates with both Resident and Visitor lanes.

If I'm not mistaken, the unmanned gates have a sign that says, "Residents Only".
Many non residents wouldn't know that you can just push a button to get in.

Not all...by any means.

As noted above, many of the unmanned entrances have two gates.

I asked our Real Estate agent (a TV agent) and she said the manned gates are scattered about on main roads/entrances to assist visitors and delivery vehicles with direction.

That makes sense with regard to assisting visitors etc. They do appear to be "scattered" and random. As you think about the manned gates, does anyone see a pattern? Some very busy through streets don't have a manned gate house which one would expect if the purpose is to assist visitors, delivery vehicles, etc.

That's right. After we did our four day lifestyle visit , we had to go to the new village for the next month and were wondering how we would get through the gate*..........easily found out that all you have to do is press the red button and anyone can go through........not all were "manned"......
*prior to getting our new set of keys, etc., etc.

At Creekside Landing, on Merriweather Way, in the beginning, we also wondered how we would get back into the gates........and found that if we pressed the red button, presto.......and we are no longer street smart, but did it.
