The District Utilities Department will begin pressure washing on all water towers located within the Village Center Service Area, Little Sumter Service Area & North Sumter Utility service territory. The schedule below has been confirmed by the contractor, weather permitting. Any updates to the schedule will be posted on Village Community Development Districts.

The application involves water only; however, on some of the towers a very mild, non-harmful chlorine solution may be utilized to eliminate existing algae. District Staff is requesting residents provide the contractor the necessary space to complete the task as over spray may occur. The contractor has advised that any overspray that may come in contact with the public or its surrounding is 100% Biodegradable and non-harmful.

Thanks for this info, Bogie. Just two days ago I noticed one tower with lots of staining on one side, and wondered just how this cleaning would be handled.

As far as I can remember, I haven't lived in a town before that washed their water towers.

Most of you won't be surprised when I say that I bet they'll get that tough stain off.

I am a bit biased.

That was my first reaction, too!

It would be interesting to see just how they are going about doing it. I don't think Bubba's Pressure Washing service will do the trick. I wonder if they will repel from the top or bring in a crane or old fire truck?

You might be surprised to know how much work goes into maintaining a water tower (and the rest of the system). The outside needs to be cleaned and painted periodically but, more importantly (we drink this stuff) the interior needs serious attention on a regular basis. This is one of those things we take for granted but we shouldn't. This system not only provides our domestic supply for drinking, cooking, and bathing, but it also supplies the water for the fire suppression in the automatic fire systems in the public buildings and the hydrants in our neighborhoods. The fire department tests the hydrants twice a year.

Wonder if they will sparkle when they are done
