GE Microwave won't heat

Our GE microwave suddenly stopped heating. The turntable turns, the thing runs it just doesn't heat. I've tried adjusting the power level but still no go. Any thoughts? Does anyone repair microwaves in TV or do I need to just go buy a new one? The darn thing is only 3 yrs old

Don't know if this could be your problem, but a couple of years ago I accidentally turned on my microwave when there was no food in the microwave (I thought I had put the food in there already). It ran for about 30 seconds before I realized my mistake. It never worked properly after that -- would not heat food properly. So I had to buy a new microwave.

It sounds like the magnetron. Ours recently went out, too. I was an electronic technician in the service and can do things like this - if necessary. I checked the cost of the part (in hand) and decided to replace the whole unit instead. New unit + new warranty for roughly twice the cost of me repairing our 8 yr. old m/w. Good luck!

My GE microwave just died tonight. No power, nothing. Tried different plugs, checked fuse box. This is the 2nd GE micro that has done this in 3 years. No sure if it's worth repairing..won't be buying GE again!!

The power supply on my 5-year old GE spacemaker microwave quit. I replaced the capacitor for $150. A month later the magnetron went out. I just replaced the whole microwave. I was told that the new ones are not quality either. Very frustrating.

There is a 20 amp slow blow replaceable fuse inside the cabinet that is most likely the culpret. If the microwave is mounted above the range, the most difficult part of the repair is getting the unit down and then remounted. The fuses are available at Home Depot or Loews. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!! I'll go outside and get it off the curb...it was all set to be condemned!!

Thanks all for the advice. Decided to replace as the repair was going to be $200

I couldn't get the front panel off mine to replace the fuse. They said remove the top screws and pop the panel off..there were no top screws but by that time we ripped it apart and it wasn't worth it. Guess I get a new one too.

If you figure it out, it sounds like you could earn a few bucks by going into the GE Microwave repair business.
