btw, I get the aggravation of blackbirds and moss as genuine nuisances, I'm only trying to make a noise for gratitude.

I think the best way to benefit from this geriatric dating trend may be to buy stock in the company that owns the major dating websites, Sparks Network, Inc. (LOV). It has gone from about 8 to over 9 in a week! No, I do not own any or plan on buying any, or actually even recommend it. All of the usual disclaimers apply.

I hear the black birds but not the moss.

That said I am now inspired to write a poem, let me get back with you on that.

To give you a serious answer about here and around the country, I think you'll find that some singles play the field; some are looking a committed relationship; some are hoping for marriage; some don't even want to date, just have friends; and some want a friend with benefits. Of course, then there are the marrieds who play the field.

You'll the group the fits your needs pretty quickly -- whether it be the party gang, the happily single, the singles looking. One thing to remember that there are more singles of the female persuasion, which makes it easier for the men to play the field. Life is what it is.

What caught my attention was the reference to STD's. I would think at our age we are smart enough to know when this is a problem and address it, but I am married 37 years so maybe I am out of touch???

Sadly, you're out of touch on this one -- because of Viagra and the simple fact that most women in retirement community have no need for birth control, the use of "protection" is not as common in our generation as it is in younger ones. Foolish, semi-irresponsible but part of human nature, I guess.

Really?

Actually, I love being single. Although it hasn't been very long and I still find myself - for a split second - questioning if it's okay to do whatever it is I wanted to do, without first having to take 'his' wants into consideration, when it dawns on me that I don't have to worry about that any more I'm thrilled.

Maybe I'm the exception to the rule, but, this independence is invigorating to me. It could be that it changes over time, but, I can't imagine going back to always doing for my husband before myself. It's my turn and I think I deserve it.

I have had my independence for almost twenty years now and while I certainly enjoy its many benefits I have reached the point where I would really like to have a life partner - the right one that is. Being stuck with the wrong one is far worse than no partner at all!

Never have truer words been spoke. The wrong one is far worse. But, if it truly takes 20 years of independence to reach the point where you would really would like to have a life partner again, I will be turning 80...so, it's quite possible I will have lost my girlish figure and wouldn't be making any man much of a partner.

Actually it did not take me twenty years of post marriage singlehood to desire a life partner. I was married so young and so long that at first I did not really know how to do single. My first serious LTR started a few months after my divorce. A few others followed. What I have found is that although it is easy to find a partner(s) it can be difficult to find the right partner unless one is fortunate. The wife of one friend of mine divorced him when he was 65. He remarried at 70 and is very, very happy. Another lost his wife to cancer when he was 77. He remarried at 82, is now 86 and is also quite happy. One just never knows! I do believe the best way to live is as one of a happy couple.

Wow! This is IT for the Singles page? Maybe I made a mistake when I
signed up. As a recent widow, I had hoped for a chance to meet someone
nice who might enjoy a companion for dinner, a movie, or perhaps just
sitting on a bench talking and feeding the birds. Don't folks do that sort of
thing anymore??? Sitting at a bar by myself hoping that a like-minded person
will see me is not my idea of fun. The Singles Clubs have resulted in
suggestions that would be appropriate at a later date - not five minutes
after a first meeting! HELP!!!
