Are they really that loud? I am thinking about buying one and am wondering if the Yamaha is louder than the other gas carts?

I wouldn't recommend foam under the seat.
It's fire hazard Retains heat in the engine compartment I added a tail pipe to mine reduced noise by 30% |

When we were kids in the 50's we stuffed steel wool in the tail pipe.

Jiffy Muffler in Wildwood sells exhaust systems and sound deadening insulation for golf carts. This insulation is the type that's used in RV's. It's wrapped around the engine compartment and under the seat. It helps reduce the noise level, but I still wouldn't say the cart is quiet.

I have seen insulation on the internet that is made for engine conditions. The problem I had was finding room in most cart engine areas to put the foam as well as the expense. Fixed the problem by buying an electric with 8 six volt batteries.. the needle starts moving off full at about 29 miles which like today meant down to sumter twice and up to Nancy Lopez area for a round of golf. Good luck though on your search for the holy grail... a gas would be nice if you can stand the noise and fumes.
