Age old question..............Gas vs. Electric. What is best???? Big Pro's and Big Con's of each?? Thanks.

Gas is best
Can get around the growing Villages
Gas does smell up the garage

Electric is quieter
Electric has more batteries to replace
I see more electric on the side of the paths that dies out!

You choose what is best for you!

There are as many opinions on this topic as there are golf cart dealers. We have lived here full time for just over three years, and own two electric carts. Battery replacement on one cart can run from $600-700 because it is an eight battery system. I'm actually getting ready to sell both my electric for gas. Yamaha only and fuel injection only. Least odor and best performance. It just all depends on your individual needs. I like to be able to get out and go from one end of TV to the other. That is getting very difficult on an electric cart.

We have had an electric Columbia Par Car since 2007. I can golf anywhere and then visit both LSL and SS and return to our home in West Villages. I've never even come close to running out of charge. If you drive in a tunnel behind a gas cart, that might help you make a decision. In my humble opinion, they are smelly and noisy.

We just ordered an electric, Yamaha golf cart. For us, it will not be used like a second car, we will use it for golf and maybe short trips to LSL and our friends' home. We very seldom go to Spanish Springs and when we do, we take the car. It was an easy decision for us.

I vote for electric. You can't have a conversation in a gas cart. I think it's like riding around on a lawnmower.

Our electric cart has extended range batteries. It's supposed to get up to 65 miles on a charge. We haven't gone that far yet, but Honeyboy drove up to Country Club Hills, played golf, then went to lunch at Southern Trace, then home to Virginia Trace, then we went to dinner at Cane Garden, then to Lake Sumter for the music & back home again with no problems. It works for us!

That's a popular myth. My wife and I talk all the time in our Yamaha Gas and I don't have good hearing. I also can answer and talk on my cell phone.

When we first moved here in 08 we bought an electric cart. While charging, it really smelled up the garage. After many problems, we took it back before warranty was up and traded it for a gas cart. It was the best decision we made. Now they make them with and over drive. Meaning, once you start out, the over drive takes over and it gets very quiet and you CAN hold a very nice conversation with your passenger. I have never had a gas smell in my garage. When we fill it, we are very careful not to spill the gas. We can drive it from the north end of TV all the way to Brownwood, play a round of golf and then head back home and never worry about losing power. They have better exhaust systems also and they do not stink like the older ones. Please do your homework regarding gas vs. electric, you will probably save yourself a lot of headache! It costs us $100.00 per year for a maintenance tune-up, if you are handy, you can do it yourself cheaper. Batteries are very expensive to replace. Just do your homework and do what is best for your lifestyle.
