Century plant blooming
Has anyone ever seen their century plant bloom? My next door neighbor said this one has been in this yard for 17 years and it picked this year to grow that 20 foot beanstalk! I was also told that if I don't get the stalk cut off, the whole plant will die (and the stalk could fall on the house or car). I called Stellar to come and cut it off.
Just wondering if anyone else has had theirs do this and what did you do? http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8f3d2e96.jpg |
What a shame to cut that stalk and not allow the plant to fulfill its purpose. Yes the mother plant will die, but puts pups out to take her place. It's a natural cycle - not sure if cutting that stalk would prevent this from happening or not.

Believe me, I would love to see it in full bloom. Unfortunately, the plant doesn't know that it's purpose is not to fall on a car, house or person. :22yikes:

There are 2 of them on Tarrson in Silver Lake that are just about ready to bloom. Go to the Shaw gate and turn left. They are both across the street from each other about a block down. Looks like they will be yellow flowers and about 6-19 per stalk.

If anyone goes to look, take some photos to share!

PLEASE spare the Mother Plant!!!

The plant will get hundreds of flowers on the stalk. After about a month, the flowers and stalk will start to wither and die and the mother plant will follow. Why not enjoy the flowers first, and then take it down?
