Don't trash us again
While walking our therapy puppy this morning (yep, I had poop bags) I picked up a couple pieces of trash that obviously had been thrown from a golf cart or vehicle. I came to realize that it is not all that uncommon to see trash along our streets and roads in todays world. I recall that not too many years ago seeing a beer can or styrofoam cup along a Villages street was indeed rare. And it's not all the dirty work of outsiders, have a look over the edge of the wooden bridge where Morse meets route 466. You will see trash that was probably thrown there by residents from their golf carts. One of the items I picked up today was the creative work of someone. It was a large Circle K styrofoam cup with a lid and straw. As I picked it up I could detect something inside the cup. The cup was only a disguise for a beer can, the straw was actually inserted in the beer can and would keep anyone from knowing that the driver was in truth drinking a beer while driving.

When circumstances permit , I too try to pick up and properly dispose of trash when I am out walking , driving my cart or bike riding . It just seems to me hat if we all did a little bit that we could keep things nice .
I have witnessed a number of people driving vehicles belonging to contracting firms and service providers toss out their trash as they are driving about on the major traffic collector roads such as Morse and BV . It`s unfortunate that some choose to litter when it is just so easy to do the right thing . |
I'm with you, bj, I get it that not all people grew up with don't be a litterbug mentality. I think it would take a huge media blitz to change everyone's behavior. We could complain to authorities who have no budget for a change program, but the reality where I live in a construction zone is to pick up the trash without feeling annoyed.
Those guys and gals are working very hard on very hot days and I hope they drink enough liquids to stay healthy. I've got your styrofoam cup, dude. Thanks for putting a roof on in 95 degrees. Kitty |
It appears that some of the workers around the villages have been doing this. I saw one person on the lawns on 466a golf path. tossed his cup from his work cart and drove away. Yep it was beer can in side a large plastic cup.

Actually I know someone who lives here that does that. He got stopped for having an open beer in his golf cart a few years back so now he uses the beer in the styrofoam cup trick.

Hopefully as we post, and rant, it is an effective outlet for our frustrations. I can't say that I am surprised at some of the "antics" we see and read about, it is just disappointing and sad that people may change, but behaviors do not. :posting: |

A. Pick up after themselves B. Not drink and drive Just my humble observations. I suppose I see a problem more with complacent attitude toward drinking and driving than the fact that the workers have no respect for the residents in the area by throwing their own trash away. Gratitude???? Pretty sure they get satisfied every payday..... |
I know it sounds wonderful to think that the Villagers wouldn't do such a thing so it must be the workers & the contractors. Not necessarily true. There are a lot of Villagers that toss trash & don't care. It's not always "the other people" !!! I have seen it.

Trash and some more!
