Dryer not drying
 

I have a gas dryer that's only about 9 months old but takes forever to dry. If I use the automatic sensor settings it always turns off too early while clothes are very damp, so I set it on the manual timer. A regular load of couple of sheets, towels and pillowcases, plus a few t-shirts and nightgowns takes 110 minutes to dry on the highest heat setting. That doesn't seem right.

All I know to check is the lint trap, which I clean after every use. Is there anything else easy/obvious I should look at before I call for a repair?

See if the vent hose in the back is kinked. You'll need someone to help you pull the dryer out.

Check the outside vent. It can get clogged with lint, or if it isnt fully covered with a wire guard or a flap, a bird can build a nest. Don't ask me how I know. :smiley:

I had the same thing happen with a new electric dryer-wouldn't dry. Desmond Harris (308-9243) came out and found that the vent on the roof had something like a cement lid on it, made from lint. He removed the "stuff" and cleaned the vent. All worked well again. We have since had him back to clean the vent again-it is surprising how much lint collects in just one year.

You can have the vent pipe cleaned. Check the business directory in the paper. We had ours cleaned for around $40-60. He went up on the roof, pulled our the dryer and got a lot of crud out.

Even after you clean the vents the overtemp thermostat may have been fried in which case requires a service call.
