OPERA from the NY Metropolitan

Last night, we went to see the opera, Carmen, being performed at the NY MET.
No, we were not back in NY, we were in Ocala.
It was wonderful ! If anyone else enjoys opera, here's an interesting experience.

Basically, during the WINTER, they use special recording equipment to record whatever event is being performed at the MET and broadcast it LIVE via satellite into select movie theatres throughout the US.
In the SUMMER, it is a broadcast of an performance that took place earlier.
The performance of Carmen that we saw last night was actually performed in 2010.
The theater is the Regal Hollywood 16 in Ocala.
They have a few more left in the Summer series and then the LIVE Winter performances will begin in October 2013.

Here's a link to the summer schedule. There is a link to the Winter schedule on the left. It also has links to videos of some of the operas (about 30 seconds each)

Delighted to learn about the summer program. During season I go often to hear/see the Met simulcasts, but until recently one had to travel either to Gainesville or to Wesley Chapel, each location some 60+ miles. Ocala is much more convenient.

Two years ago I approached the manager of the movie theaters here in TV to ask about their carrying the simulcasts; I was told that they cannot do it, as it requires digital equipment which they did not have. Then last year there was a story in the paper about Brownwood theater being built with digital equipment, so I called again. He told me that they actually upgraded the equipment in ALL the theaters here, but evidently he's not interested in carrying the simulcasts. That's too bad, as he has a huge potential audience here for whom it would make life much easier. Oh well....

How short sighted of them, they are missing a great opportunity. I would gladly pay to be able to see entertainment of this kind right here in TV without having to travel at night. Who did you contact about this, maybe if enough of us requested they look into this it might make them consider it?
