INSULATING over a garage - does it help?
Has anyone insulated above the garage ceiling and did it help with the
heat buildup. I have already insulated the garage doors and that did help some. If you had a good experience who did you use and did they use blown in material or roll material?? Thanks for any help!! |
it was reported a saving of 2 degrees, not worth the cost at all.

I have no idea, but it seems that if heat rises why would your garage be cooler by insulating above it?
|
Good point DougB - I believe the idea is it prevents the incredible heat from the roof from coming down into the garage space. We recently had the space above our enclosed lanai insulated and it is interesting how there is an actual space between the ceiling and about 3 inches down that is cool. So the heat is no longer coming from the ceiling, but from the single pane windows (rising heat). Next on the list is to have the windows tinted to hopefully block the heat - already have solar screens but they only block the UV rays not the heat.

We were wondering the same thing.
We are planning on insulating our doors (west facing garage). Wonder if an attic fan would be better? |
I am a sucker for all of that stuff. So far I have tinted all the windows, vents in the garage doors, garage exhaust fan into the attic, solar exhaust fans in the attic, whole house dehumidifier, insulated the garage door, solar for the pool, and finally today did the SECO heat shield.

What is the SECO heat shield?

Under 55 ! Have you experienced advantages to these installs, particularly the heat shield ??? Thanks.

Under 55 - thanks for the link.

Seems to be like a radiant barrier would necessarily radiate winter heat from the sun....??
