Street parking in TV
 

Seeing the varied opinions on golfers-in-yards and dogs-in-yards made me curious about cars-on-streets. I've lived in neighborhoods where homeowners felt quite strongly that the street in front of THEIR house was for parking THEIR cars.

Would you say something if a neighbor left a car in front of your house for a long time? Are there problems in CYV neighborhoods where there is no curbside street parking?

It's the same as the dog poop, retrieving golf balls, and a host of other issues we seem to suffer - people not being courteous or conscious of other people feelings or space. An age old problem humanity will probably always be plagued by that could simply be solved by using plain old common sense.

Enough said!

Unless the County Deputy decides that a vehicle parked on the street is a "problem" (primarily an impediment for emergency vehicles) you may not like it but there is really nothing you can do about it. Read some of the other Threads---that is the bottom line. The streets are public streets and enforcement is up to the various law juristiction.

Sumter County Sheriff's office ( 352 793-0222 )

Per Brad Arnold, Sumter County Supervisor ( 352 689-4400)

Ordnance, Chapter 17, section 0-29, division 1

No parking in or on any county road or street or right of way in the unincorporated area of Sumter county.

So after reading this, and my neighbor confirmed with the supervisor, anyone parking on a county street in The Villages is subject to a citation.

The reason he made this inquiry of Sumter county is because the Villages doesn't have Jurisdiction any more. Also the width of the streets in the neighborhood aren't designed for street parking.

Most people are reasonable and have no problem with with campers and motor homes loading and unloading but to have vehicles parked regularly in the streets would be dangerous and unsightly. One of the main attractions for us was a community with deed restrictions so we don't end up living in a town like we left.

So if we have a problem with someone abusing street parking ( not occasional guests) we can call the Sumter County Sheriff's office to file a complaint.

Angry Important news for villagers-Street Parking
I was recently given a citation by the Sheriffs dept. and will be paying $116 fine.

I was parked in front of my friends house because we were all playing cards in the villages. The neighbor across the street pulled out of his driveway and smashed into my driver's side door. My insurance said to call the police and have the neighbor call their insurance company. The police said the neighbor got a citation for more money that will affect his insurance, but that I was at fault too for parking on the roadway!!! The section is 316.1945.1.a.6 I called the clerk of courts and she told me that if I lost the case, I could be charged $500 plus court costs plus they can sanction my license.

So, do not park in the road in The Villages. You may get a citation if anything happens. I called two lawyers and one said to fight it, and one said they wouldn't. I am not going to fight it. But it is wrong.

The streets in Villa belong to The Villages and thus the parking issue is not the same and the reason why many streets have not been repaved.

There would have been no issue IF this person had not parked directly across from someone's driveway. Blocking a driveway is one good way to get your car hit. And you are just as much at fault as the driver that hit your car!

Once again, common sense applies. You will not get cited for parking safely in the street while at a friend's house for a few hours. As for parking in guest spaces at a CYV community - I will leave that up to CYV owners to argue about.

I'm not sure I understand. How was a driveway blocked by parking across the street from it?

Maybe the law of averages is against me, but I seem to have run into more than my fair share of people who've glared or even shouted at me for parking in front of their house when I'm visiting someone. Not here, so maybe TV is immume.

...I'm exhausted from the former threads u referenced but I learned this: people who aren't black and white like us may not be so much entitled as I thought...they simply see the world as gray and yards as sort of mine and yours and kind of ok for us all to be wherever we are with our golf balls and our dogs.

Excluding the Entitled, many mean no offense, they just don't see why we get all riled up over what they see as a little thing. I'm a troll on the bridge about private property, but I get it that some people think I'm uptight in paradise.

I've got a guy in my area that always parks on the outside of the curve just barely between his driveway and his neighbors. It drives me NUTS! When I go around the curve I have to cut into the inside and I'm always more worried someone else might be coming. I think it's dangerous. What a moron! Just thinking of himself.

Is that in The Villages or in Michigan? If in The Villages, you should call Community Watch and let them see it first hand. They would talk to the owner.

Sorry guys Community Watch won't do anything, you'll have to call the Sheriff's office as Community Watch will tell you the Villages does not own the streets.

Have someone park a car directly across from your driveway, than you take your car and try to back out of your driveway. See what you think about it.
