Public Beaches?
 

I know there have been several threads about beaches.
However, we are looking for public beaches that are some what off the beaten path or not packed by hordes of people. I undrestand that may not exist in FL, but that is what we are looking for.

Try Caladezi Island. It is south of here near Dunedin, Fl. just north of Clearwater. Since it is an island, you need to take a ferry to get to the beach. The ferry is $10.00 a person, so a lot of people won't pay to go. The Beach is beautiful with lots of sea shells and is not crowed.

Most will recommend the gulf coast. However, I recommend east coast in Brevard County. The closest would be Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach Area. You can have dinner on the pier and at 4:00 PM on Thurs. Or Sun. You can see a beautiful parade of cruise ships leaving the port! Love it!

Do a Google search on "secluded beaches in florida".

Good advice! Playalinda Beach is secluded.

That is our favorite - Cape Canaveral National Seashore. A real gem. There are several parking areas spread out about 1/2 mile apart along the beach. I think the nude beach is a long walk past the last parking area. There is a restroom at each parking area, and you walk up some wooden stairs over the dunes to walk down to the ocean. There are also a couple of nature drives in the park where you'll see tons of bird life and gators.

Agree with the Brevard County comments. Lived in Melbourne Beach for eight years before TV (only moved because we got tired of looking at the beach and the ocean - if you can believe that). The space center and Cocoa Beach areas are fine as some have noted. But if you are looking for great empty stretches of beach you need to travel a little further South. The beaches from Melbourne Beach down to Vero Beach are about the prettiest and empty you will find in Florida. Great fishing off the pier at Sabastian Inlet (stop and watch even if your not a fishermen), a sea turtle museum (turtles are nesting at this time of the year), a treasure museum and great public facilities along Highway A1A. It is about a 2 and a-half hour ride from here. Stop into Meg O'Malley's in Melbourne for lunch or dinner. The best Irish Pub and Irish menu you will find anywhere. The corned-beef and cabbage and the 19 cent cup of Irish bean soup are fantastic.

I assure you, you will not be disappointed on this trip.

Love all beaches but esp love Siesta Key....where most sand has a texture of sugar...that sand has the testure of powdered sugar!....Just enter at the public beach and move a bit to the left away from the crowds!!!

Definitely the beaches in Sanibel and Captiva. You may be pushing the 4 hour limit to get there, but well worth it. The view going over the bridge to Sanibel is breath-taking. Bring your bikes if you are into that. Miles of bike trails on Sanibel.
