Nook HD+ Tablet - Inexpensive Alternative
 

Right now, Barnes and Noble has a deal running on their Nook HD+ tablet for $149.

This is a 9" HD screen, 16GB storage (expandable with micro SD card), wifi, android app compatible.

Original/normal price was $269.

This is a great deal for someone needing a tablet but not wanting to spend the full price for an ipad. The HD display is very crisp. You can go to the B&N store in LSL and check it out.

I bought the 7" version for $129 (had an original nook and looking to upgrade) and was very impressed. My sister got the 9" and loves it.

If you already have a nook/B&N account, all your book purchases transfer. It's a great indoor reader (a little too much glare for full sunlight for me) as well as operating as a web tablet. Through Google Play, you can download the Kindle app and read your kindle book purchases on it.

Anyway, just wanted to share what I thought was a great deal. There is some concern about B&N's future with Nook and why these are so discounted, but, to me, it's a very inexpensive, "works now" purchase.

I was very interested in these as well. the smaller Nook HD has a wonderful display, with much better resolution than the ipad mini. For the price, how can you go wrong, especially if you're just looking for something to act as ereader, surf the internet, get email, view an occasional movie, etc.

It used to be you had to download only Nook apps. Now I believe that through Google Play you can download all sorts of apps with the Nook HD, or HD+.

A REALLY inexpensive ebook reader!
 

If all you want is an ebook reader and don't need all the bells and whistles of a Kindle Fire or an iPad or B&N's Nook tablet, check out the Literati by Sharper Image. It's no longer made, since the Sharper Image company went out of business. However, it's easily obtainable on sites such as amazon.com and ebay.com.

The unit has access to several dozen free books, available through kobo.com, with more added periodically. And because there's no attempt being made at anything proprietary, as is the case with the exclusivity of the Nook and the Kindle, one can pick up ebooks most anywhere and be able to load them onto the Literati. It is a wireless unit as well.

I've been using one of these for quite some time and have not been disappointed!

I had the original Nook and it was a very good ebook reader but not much else.

I upgraded to the Nook Tablet but ran into problems within a month of not being able to get it to power up properly. I exchanged it and had no problems until a few weeks after the one year warranty expired. The Tablet would operate randomly and kill the battery. I brought it back to B&N and they said so sorry but can't be fixed. They sold me a refurb at a big discount but that unit had power problems within a couple of weeks so I returned it.

Now I have a Nexus 7 and am very happy with it. It has Nook and Kindle apps and runs much better than the Nook.

Thanks Blackie.... I was concerned about their future support of the Nook device. Buyer beware.

It is a truly beautiful display and nice device and works fine....today. If I get a couple of years out of it, it will be worth the nominal investment. I imagine someone will step up and provide hardware/tech/warranty support.
