We have had 3 in our lifetime.

Welcome to Talk of the Villages, oarr3473. Welcome to you and your beautiful Happy Boy. I thought he was an Australian shepherd at first glance but I didn't see a blue eye. Then I thought ssmith might be correct and he is a Sheltie. What kid of dog is it?

Not all Australian Shepherds have blue eyes....they come in various colors, just like their coats.

He is gorgeous. I don't think I've ever seen a blue merle Sheltie in real life. Like the Australian shepherds, they are sooo intelligent. I'm sure aussiemom can confirm how smart the Australian shepherds are.

I had an Australian shepherd. He was blue merle with blue eyes. He was the smartest dog in the world. Seriously. He looked a lot like Happy Boy when he was a puppy. He was a big ball of fur and energy.

OK I win....he is a Sheltie....

They are very very smart and such good dogs.....they live to please their owner!!!!
