Maybe.....because many have enjoyed fireworks and don't need them anymore? When we did a poll here on the forum on parades a majority didn't need those either.

We haven't gone to a parade or to watch fireworks for years. The big draw was when our children and grandchildren loved them. Now I don't like the traffic jams.

I am a patriotic girl and hide if you are wearing a uniform because I will shake your hand and thank you. I get all teary eyed when old glory passes by but...

fireworks...not so much anymore.

I like a good picnic on the fourth with burgers and baked beans and potato salad and I wear my nice red golf shirt with my navy shorts.

I love a lot of things patriotic but I can see the fireworks from all around if I pull my cart over near a big open space like a golf course and you can see them in the surrounding areas.

You know I will defend the developer. I am waiting for that first check, Gary. ;)

To add to the above note, it may be a fire hazard too.

I believe there are fireworks in Ocala, Leesburg and I did read somewhere there
are fireworks on Rt 441 across the street from Walmart, Summerfield.

Also, instead of bashing Mr Morse, why not send him a letter and ask him why????????

Do what I do on the 4th. Get yours friends together for picnic food and lots of cold drinks.

DougB 07-02-2013 10:26 AM

Plenty of fireworks on television.

Since when are fireworks just for little kids? My wife and I always look for fireworks displays. And am disappointed now fireworks in the villages. We would pay an extra admission to the Fourth of July Party with Fireworks.

I don't NEED golf courses or NEED rec centers or NEED most of the other recreational opportunities that are offered around here, but I moved here because they were available, and I wanted to enjoy them!! If I'd wanted to have to drive around to surrounding communities to find parades and fireworks, I could have stayed in Ohio. If I'd wanted to have to organize my own picnics and other July 4 activities, I could have stayed in Ohio. This place waves lots of flags and makes lots of patriotic noise but seems to have trouble putting its money where its mouth is.

I love Ohio. I love The Villages.

Maybe because over the fourth of July weekend our population being really LOW may have something to do with it.

I have to ask this. How often did any of you go to parades and to fireworks back from whence you came?

It has been years for us, but everyone is different.

No one can rain on the parade I have in my heart every day in this place and when I kiss Sweetie there is still fireworks.

I can't help myself. Still waiting for the first check from Gary.:pepper2:

When the Decaration of Independence was passed, Adams wrote home to his wife that this date should be marked by parades, celebrations and Illuminations. We go for fireworks more as I get older and we have no kids.

Spending $50 for a buffet and a place to watch the fireworks across the river.

Well maybe a look at the NAME OF THIS HOLIDAY tells you why you should not depend on the developer or any other businessman (nor monarch) to give you stuff:

:bowdown:This is one of the best posts I've seen this year. Lately there are so many posts displaying a huge sense of entitlement.

Happy 4th to all..
