WalMart selling garbage

Yesterday I was doing some shopping at 441 WalMart and one of the items on my shopping list was a cantaloupe. For the second time in a month, as I looked thru the large box of melons, I found at least half on the verge of rotting. At times when I picked up a melon, my fingers would break thru the rind and into the melon. Really nasty I must say!!! This same thing happened a few weeks back, I complained to the manager who said he would talk to the produce person. It so happened that the following day I was back at the 441 WalMart and you guessed it, the same box, same rotten melons were still for sale. Folks, these cantaloupes were actually at the point of being garbage and should be below the standards of even WalMart.

Hellooooo! Is anyone surprised? We want cheap, and when we buy Walmart cheap, this is what we get.... Someone I know was once going to a wedding directly from a driving trip and realized she had forgotten to bring a pair of shoes. She told me she tried every shoe store in the area before breaking down and going to Walmart (kicking and screaming, I might add...). She found a plain pair of shoes that would work for SIX DOLLARS! Knowing that Walmart will get its "pound of flesh" in terms of its profits, how can anyone earn a living wage and feed himself or herself (and oossibly a family) on making (in this case) a pair of shoes that retails for $6. Geez Louise.... (As opposed to "Boy howdy!") What are we doing to ourselves?...

I noticed that also. I very seldom buy fruits or vegetables there. Overpriced and on the verge of being moldy.

I now go to the Produce stands at Spanish Springs or Brownwood. Publix and Winn-Dixie are too expensive but Aldi's is great if you pick thru it and get the best product but they also tend to be over ripe and near rotting.

We never buy produce or meat at Walmart it just never looks fresh to me. I agree Aldi's is a good place to get produce if you pick and choose to make sure you get the best they have.

I have my hands palms up and doing a poor imitation of a scale saying "Geez Louise""Boy Howdy" "Geez.......:clap2:

Best produce is at Fresh Market. More expensive but lasts longer and tastes better.

Buy cheap, get cheap. Too many times we focus on price, not value. That goes for both products and services.

I agree ... good produce, plus the ambiance is wonderful. It turns a mundane shopping expedition into an enjoyable experience.

I bought a small watermelon at Walmart on 441 (Third World Walmart we call it...it's gross, but close) and it appeared healthy on the outside. Apparently is was VERY rotten on the inside and overnight it cracked on my counter and began to leak. The smell was HORRIBLE and it took weeks to get it out of my counter and floor!

We try to buy at the farmer's markets in The Villages. We ask the vendor to pick the fruit when we have doubts. We get good quality and support our local economy. Walmart is not always the low cost provider.

I never buy fruit, fresh vegetables or meat from Wally World.

graciegirl 07-04-2013 07:58 AM

Golly neds and boy howdy. Everyone knows Walmart doesn't have the best produce. BUT their staples are cheaper. Just go to Publix for the produce or wherever you prefer.

We do not need to have a political commentary on this. Many people are on fixed incomes here. If they shop thrifty, good for them.

tomjbud 07-04-2013 09:39 AM

Well put graciegirl, I agree wholeheartedly!
