Morse modal path closed
While playing golf on Amelia, this afternoon, the strange activity on the Morse multi modal path between Odell and Bonita caught our attention. Couple of sheriffs deputies and community watch vehicles were off to the side of the road. We then noticed the lack of cart traffic or foot traffic on the path. Once we reached the 7th tee a small truck pulled up and a guy gets out and starts taking pictures of the shrubbery. Ok, so now our curiosity is really taking over. Then he starts putting on what we believe was a bee keepers outfit. He was headed to the bushes as we were going about our golf. The path coming off of Odell was blocked by community watch and I do see an email advising of the closure. Interesting to see what they may have found there.

Hope it's nothing serious. They said the path will be open by this evening.

We seen two ladies sitting on the ground behind their golf cart, it appeared as one or both had been stung by a bee(s). Medical personal was already on the scene and we were told to keep moving because of bees.

2 young girl meter readers or other kind of workers were attacked by 100s of bees. 1 of them was allergic. Luckily when I stopped she told me there was an epi pen. In her golf cart. I left as soon as the ambulance arrived. But pretty sure both were ok.. A very scary thing for those young girls

As of 5:50pm Community Watch still has the path closed but the workers I had seen earlier are gone.

if you need an epi pen for a bee sting the pen will save you...mutiple stings you may not make it.

Saw a truck at the mouth of the trail around 7 p.m.-ish tonight as well with a man just outside of it directing golf-carts.

Unfortunately my neighbor and I were on the Morse path when we were approached by a woman running towards us with bees all around her. Yes, we stopped to help her not realizing what we were getting ourselves into. I had a beach towel and my neighbor used that hitting the woman with the towel trying to get the bees off of her. I was trying to call 911 but the bees started after me. Thank god a police car just happened to be driving by and I screamed for help. By that time I had gotten stung in the head. Someone else did stop and got the eppi pen for the woman who was allergic and the cop was helping the other women (meter reader?) get the bees out of her long hair. This was about 11am. My neighbor and I decided to leave since help was on the way. I hope that woman is ok. That area on my head was extremely painful. I can't imagine with several stings. I took an antihistamine and tylenol and laid down for a bit. What a way to end a morning on the course!!!!

I am pretty close to afraid of bees, wasps, hornets and stinging bugs as I imagine most people are. Had a bunch of them sting me a couple years ago and that could be deadly for some. I am glad to read that a man in a beekeeper garb was on the scene and was attending to the situation. This might be the time of year to watch out for bees and to call Deans or Massey or whoever you have for insect protection of you see them on your property. I hope it has been handled and that everyone is safe from that bunch anyway. |

We were on our way home last night from the movies and saw as of 10:00pm the neighborhood watch truck was still there..

Anyone know what type of bees they were. Usually, normal bees are not that aggressive.
|
Trying to help these 2 women......killer bees n my opinion!
|
My guess would be yellow jackets. They have nests underground and the meter readers probably swerved off the path and ran over the nest. Yellow jackets can sting multiple times as they have smooth stingers and not barbed. Very painful and dangerous to someone who is allergic.

Lady with the beach towel.
Thank- god for the 2 of you. The whole time all I could think to myself if they were not so brave I think I would have been scared to death. There were so many bees.. You were both so brave. I couldn't have stopped to get that pen out of their truck. You were life savers.
