Detroit native on course to play 14,000 holes in year

In the past 12 months,Detroit native John Verdura has played 72 holes of golf in one day � twice. Heoften has golfed from sunup to sundown. At one point, he played 78 straightdays. Verdura has fallen into a frigid pond on a 38-degree day and kept playing.He has golfed in 107 degrees. He has slashed at balls in high winds and poundedthem through heavy rain. He has recorded four holes-in-one. Verdura, 63, crushed the record Richard Lewis set in 2010 when he played 11,000 holes in Irving, Texas. Verdura � who has not met Lewis � began his attempt Aug. 1 and broke Lewis� record May 11 He�s nearly on pace to play 14,000 holes by July 31. Verdura�s record will remain unofficial until the end of July, when he submits scorecards signed by witnesses as proof to Guinness for verification
