Just saw this tonight and I loved it. Johnny Depp kills as Tonto.

I am so happy to hear that. The reviews have been less than kind, so I had been waiting to hear what some Lone Ranger fans thought of it.

My wife and I really enjoyed it, so did the other couple and our neighbors. If I were to listen to critics and go by their views, there would be very few movies to see.

To be honest, it was entertaining. But they seemed to take great pains to make it unlike the original. They could have done a better job at incorporating more of the original theme and yet still be different. My wife who has never seen the TV show liked it a lot and she loves Johnny Depp.

I give it 1 thumb up, 1 thumb down. I would say wait for it on DVD.

We are looking forward to seeing it ourselves this week.

Unfortunately it did very poorly at the box office. Probably a result of the critics. I'm trying to figure out what they didn't like about it. I thought that it was very entertaining even though very unrealistic. But that's what I expected.

The only thing that I didn't like was the device where a statue of Tonto comes alive to tell the story to a little kid at a 1933 carnival. That was a bit over the top for me. The rest however I thought was fantastic. Some of the audience members clapped at the end when he shouted "Hi Ho Silver, Away!"

Have been hoping that someone would put a review of this movie on TOTV. I'll probably see it in the next month or so. I often wait for the last few days of a movie's run.

I think that trying to make it like the original would have been pretty difficult. The original was at first a radio series then a television series. Each week there was a different villain, a different victim and a different crime to be avenged. They needed a story and decided on the story of how he became the Lone Ranger. I got the impression that the original series picked up where this left off.

What would you have done to make it more like the original?

DDoug 07-13-2013 02:16 PM

Most of the young people didnt know who the Lone Ranger was so they didnt go see it

I will have to wait until Netflix carries the movie. I always though that Tonto was a sidekick but from what I read Tonto is now the better one. I guess I will have to wait and find out.

BTW: how many of the kids today even know who the Lone Ranger is?

To tell you the truth, I really wanted to see this movie since I'm a very loyal western fan. After seeing the previews I decieded to forget it as unrealistic special effects scenes such as him riding a horse over a train and buildings just didn't do it for me. I'll take Clayton Moore and Jay Silverhills which is more believable and less special effects. I'm suprised they didn't put a cape on the Lone Ranger and Tonto and have them fly away.

I have to agree with Boogie.

After reading the "experts" about this movie I had mixed feelings about going to this movie. However , I was pleased at the performance.

Keep in mind today's movies have to be altered to address the shortened attention span of the audience. It must have flash and verve to capture their attention. (Example of this is Great Gatsby).

In my humble opinion This movie had storyline, humor, social consciousness, good vs evil antagonist vs protagonist.

I believe this movie will get better reviews -once the huddled masses see it.

The producer Johnny Depp will probably make enough $$ to buy ANOTHER Caribean Island.:posting:

 Doug, Exactly! Youth today go for the "action movies"---most never heard of the Lone Ranger. Most of our friends liked it---we plan to see it as we get the time.
