I'm always a little skeptical when it turns out to be someplace I haven't heard about. Of course I've heard of the Mediterranean area but not that specific location. (Scientific minds are always skeptical. ;)) We always ask for proof. I wonder how many centenarians they have per 100,000. And can the ages be verified by birth certificates?
If it's all based on someone going there, doing interviews and writing an interesting article, rather than conducting a scientific study, then I suppose it's in the category of "interesting". But nothing more. For all we know, the writer of the article may have been commissioned by the island's chamber of commerce.
