Location BP machines
 

Where do you get you BP taken? We go to Publix, but don't like their new machines. Walgreens does not have BP maxhines. Found one at CVS on 466. Any more available?

Sams has quite a set up.

Why not buy one (about$40) and do it at home ?

I agree with Mulligan. These units are not expensive and keeping track (log) of your stats is valuable information. Don't forget to do the right arm every once in a while to compare... a significant difference in the two can sometimes offer an early warning of stroke (left side right side). And... of course eat right, lol, lots of fiber. Just stopping by a public BP machine occasionally does not give the full story.

Be careful relying on different public blood pressure machines as they are notoriously inaccurate - the one in WalMart may give a very different reading to the one in Sam's.

A cheap home one may not be much better, but at least it should be consistently wrong so will alert you to changes in your blood pressure

Simple solution would be to take yours to the next appt at your doc's office and compare readings and note the difference.

Agreed - once you have calibrated your home device against a professional model it becomes much more useful

We have tried the wrist type and the arm type. We prefer the arm type although they both see to work okay. Every time we buy a new one we do take it to the doctor on our next visit and make sure we register the same or close.

A blood pressure unit is nice to have around when you are not feeling good and want to make a quick check of your blood pressure.

The one we have now is an arm unit with settings for two people so we can keep our numbers separate. It also has a AC adapter so we do not have to depend on the battery.

You can't do your right arm at the one in Publix unless you stand on your head

I agree with finding differences in what type (and where) the the BP is taken. Did you know if they use a smaller band on your arm it will read higher than a wide band? The automatic types also tend to read higher as well. It's confusing to me what ones to trust. I never go to the public ones just because I'm thinking it won't be accurate. We bought one to have at home and it too doesn't seem accurate. Is there a brand and or type that one would recommend on buying??

I have this one and it appears to be quite accurate. I tested against my doctor's.

We've gone through three home machines. Would love to have someone suggest a brand name of one they like.

All ours read low. But then we both have that White Coat Syndrome. As soon as someone approaches with a bp machine, my heart starts racing.
