Air Duct Cleaning Recommendations

We got an estimate from the company that manages our air conditioner for an air duct cleaning and they said it would be $400 plus $150 for the dryer vent plus they tried to up-sell us on other things. Can anyone recommend someone cheaper?

JUst had Covenant Janitorial clean my dryer vent. Wish everyone in the Villages was as efficient as this company. On time, got the job done and the charge was $50. Would definitely recommend them. Contact Desmond Harris 352-308-9243

How old is your home - I can't imagine why someone would need their ducts cleaned if they had changed filters regularly. What is lurking up there???

EXACTLY!

I had asked several people in the business and they basically said "Don't bother!"

If I am wrong - or they are, please tell me. My wife says I am wrong an awful lot !!!!

I change my filters every two months. After 11 years I had to replace the air conditioner (both inside and out) because it died. I decided to have the ducts cleaned. They were filthy. When the guy went up into the return (which is in the ceiling in my home) you could not ever recognize him because all of the gray lint and stuff that was all over him.

The filter is at the air conditioning unit and all of the dust, lint, cat and dog hair, etc. gets sucked up into the returns and through the ducts to the filter at the unit. Apparently not all of it makes it to the filter.

I think that this will become a five year project from now on.

I just saw your post (three weeks late). Wright Way Duct Cleaning, 352-483-5545 did a very thorough job on our ducts and dryer vent for less money. They actually removed the blower fan and cleaned it as well (I don't know if anyone else does this). That also gave them access to more of the ducting and bottom of the A coils for a more thorough cleaning. I'll use them again and highly recommend them.

If you put a filter in the return -- usually in the ceiling -- you avoid the necessity for duct cleaning. The filter is bigger an more expensive ($85) but worth it.

I have used Tom Wright of Wright Way Duct Cleaning, 352-483=5545. Have used Tom for several years, reliable, good work ethics and price competitive. He also does dryer vent cleaning as well as servicing AC. Good luck

Excellent idea. How does one do this?

The company that services my AC recommends that you do not have the AC ductwork cleaned--it is very easy to damage and poke holes in the ductwork. The dryer vent should be cleaned periodically.
