Hot Water Heater Timers

I am considering adding a timer to control when the hot water heater is operating. Any ideas as to the effectiveness of reducing the electric bill ??

You will save $2.50/month max. How much does the timer cost? are you putting it in yourself or hiring an electrician?

It may take 20 years to recoup your investment, just sayin'.

I installed a hot water recirculation pump with a timer that I purchased at Lowes. At least you don't have to run the hot water for five minutes when you take a shower. Too bad they didn't insulate the hot water lines when they were buried in the concrete.

I asked for the lines to be insulated during my design meeting. I was told no.I then talked to the plumber during construction & he said it wouldn't make a lot of difference so insulate. He said a recirc pump was the way to go.

A pet peeve of mine is the term" hot" water heater. If the water is already hot then why heat it . It's a water heater.

Boy I'm glad my shower is first in line. My kitchen sink on the other hand....
