Mainahs? My aunt in Kittery used to call herself a Mainiac! :)

graciegirl 08-17-2013 11:48 AM

Let's see how Mainah's answer this question.

Have you lived there all of your life?

North&South 08-17-2013 01:54 PM

I'm too am a Mainer! Born and raised in Waterville, but have lived the last 35 years in Fairfax County, VA. Even though my children were born and raised in VA, they consider Maine their home as well since they have spent every summer and numerous other vacations there. Still have family in Waterville plus we have a wonderful little camp on China Lake we visit whenever possible. (this will be our summer destination after retirement!).
We close - remotely- on our home in Collier this week with plans to visit in early September. Full retirement is still a few months away yet.

Sue,
are we following each other? - I taught at Waterville JHS for 28 yrs -- the old one on Gilman St, and the newer one out by Thomas College - remember the first year it was open the roof collapsed because of snow load that was my classroom and the room next to it - we have been in Fairlakes and then Alexandria, Fairfax county for last 13 yrs. -- small world!!! We (the four of us should get together some time) -- You will be in a nearby Neighborhood - we are building on Yearling Way in Pinellas. We will be down there permanently starting sept 3rd - renting til ours is finished in Oct.

A "Mainiac" or a "Down Easter" (or is that a "Down East-ah")

I have family in Wiscasset, Poland (Maine) & Wells. Maine is beautiful in the summer, but the winters are too long for me!

I am told the correct answer from Mainah's known for their frugal use of words is...

Ohio girl:.Have you lived in Maine all of your life?

Mainah: Not yet.

upinmaine 08-17-2013 06:41 PM

I am also from Maine. Born in Bangor, grew up in Old Town, lived in Wells and Winthrop. We bought a home here in Mission Hills in November 2012 and moved here full time in December 2012. Best decision I ever made, except for marrying my wife.
You can always find a few things that are not perfect but living here is like being on vacation all of the time except that you never get to the day when you say "Oh no, I have to to go home in two days" because you ARE home.
Always pay attention to what Graciegirl says. You may not always agree with her but she she is a font of knowledge and wisdom and I consider her to be the "un-official" mayor of The Villages.

Can't get from here

Originally from Van Buren, educated in Orono, (mechanical engineering 1975), worked at Loring Air Force base for 2 years, the Cold Regions Lab, Hanover, NH, 4 years and the last 30 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. Moved to the village of Alhambra in April of this year. Enjoying retirement and learning to enjoy our new home. Nice to hear from a fellow Mainah.

Another Mainiac :)

We lived in South Berwick for few years and I worked in Wells for 14, loved the beach there and in York. Heading back for few days in September, best time of year in New England. Moved here from NH. You will see a lot of NH , ME and MA license plates on golf cars.

Welcome !

We are Vermontahs but have vacationed (vacationland) in Maine for well over twenty years from Ogunquit to Popham Beach. Does that count?? Perhaps we'll run into you at the VT/ME dinners at the Paradise Rec Center beginning in January. We are headed to Ogunquit Playhouse in October to see The Buddy Holly story. Rock & Roll Kathi and Cookie !!!
