Pennecamp Pool

Just realized today that Pennecamp Pool is temporary closed.
Anyone know why?

Unfortunately, a gentleman had a heart attack while swimming laps and died. That's why the pool was closed.

Just looked at the recommended site (VCDD) and did see that the pool was closed for "draining and cleaning" but unlike it did not give starting bad s
Ending dates as it did with other closings!
I am sorry to hear that a man died while swimming laps but am curious that this accident/incident has not been reported else ware, to the best of my knowledge.
I'm a Pennecamp resident and frequent the pool often and am currently in WI and would like to learn more about this tragedy.

Something similar happened about a year ago when there was a lot of discussion on this forum about someone found dead of a gunshot wound on a golfcourse and nothing was mentioned in The Daily Sun. I called the managing editor at that time, Mira Minton, and asked her and she said it was customary for the Sun not to publish accounts of suicides.

I don't know what is the usual procedure of reporting in the paper the death of someone who dies somewhere on campus. I know that a man died on a park bench and that was discussed on this forum as folks who post on here came to his aid and then his daughter came on the forum to thank those who helped her dad. It was not printed in the Sun.

Whether it SHOULD be or not is a matter of opinion, I guess.

Appreciate your comments and insight as usual. As you state, there have been discussions in the past when something similar has happened. I just find is unusual that no one has posted anything about this accident!

The pools that are designated for lap swimming are only 4 and a half feet deep, much easier to get help to someone with a medical emergency. The family and neighborhood pools are not really for lap swimming but I know that many people use them for that purpose. It's unsafe as those pools go to about 6 feet and very difficult to help someone. All the pools tho have life saving equipement readily available on the pool decks. Take a few minutes and look around the pools to see where the safety equipement is an dif you don't know how to use it, ask someone. And of course NEVER swim alone no matter how good you think you are, things happen very quickly.

I knew about it from some neighbors, but did not start a thread. Seems to me that it's nobody's business but family, friends, and some people who were around when it happened.

I agree, why do people think they should get all the details? As if it would make any difference to their lives.
