Golf cart insurance?
 

We recently purchased a small house here in the Villages to rent out. When I inquired about insurance for the golf cart that will be there for the use of tenants, I was told that there is no one who would insure the golf cart for that purpose. Does anyone have a rentalwith a golf cart? If so, what do you do? I am not so concerned about collision as I am about liability.

If anyone has any experience with this and can offer me some advice, please do.

You have to put the carts on your homeowner's insurance then not rent them but allow them to be used by the renter's. Do not offer the carts for rent but allow them to be used.

Before taking the above advice, I would suggest you speak with BOTH a lawyer and an insurance agent. You do not want to find out that you were not covered for liability if some accident happened, would you?

A direct quote from AAA Insurance agent here in TV: "Homeowners should never just put their cart on the homeowner policy, because claims due to the cart could get your homeowner's policy cancelled, and that would be disastrous because good homeowner policies are getting harder to get in FL". Makes sense to me!!

A separate golf cart policy is best for your own use (Foremost is one of the ones who does that, thru TV Insurance). For renters of your home to be covered by your liability insurance....see thread linked below.

Check with your agent, but I was told by my agent that the homeowner's insurance only covers the carts while they are driven on the golf course. You'll need separate golf cart insurance by a company called Foremost or others to have the golf cart insured on the paths.

Any advice on the safest way to go about renting a golf cart for Jan-March?? Would any of you suggest that The Villages Golf Cart rentals (owned by the developer) would probably be the best---insurance wise--choice?

I think the OP was talking about letting someone who rents his house to use the golf cart without actually saying the cart is included in the rental price.

Please do check with a lawyer to see if that would hold up in court and also with an insurance company.

The liability could wipe you out.
