spotted a Red-Tail Hawk

I'm no birder, but living in New York I became fascinated by red-tail hawks. I've been in TV 4 years hoping to see one, because I know they're here. So yesterday afternoon I finally saw one - on my neighbor's roof where there are dozens of songbirds every day. All the small birds scattered with shrieks of alarm, and the hawk sat there in the sun, turning his head completely around like an owl. Of course when I went to get my camera he took off and all the little birds returned.

Are you in Hadley - have heard the same report from some neighbors.

We may have seen him/her at the Odell pool last week!

Go over to El Diablo golf course and you will have a very good chance to see Bald Eagles. At the 8th hole area (in a large tree) at Pimlico, you can see nesting Ospreys in the Spring. I have seen red-tailed hawks on several golf courses here.

I think it's a female. Very large and very vivid red tail, typical of female. Maybe she will nest nearby next spring.

Speaking of owls, we had a large one sitting on top of our house around 10:30pm last night. My wife came out of the bedroom and said "I think I hear an owl hooting". I said, no way, so went outside and waited a minute and he hooted again. I said, "I think he's on our roof", and was able to make out his body outline and big eyes, looked to be about 2-1/2 to 3' when perched. He then flew off. Pretty cool!
