Removing a large living oak tree
I heard that removing a large living oak tree is next to impossible to have removed. My is about 8 0r 9 inches thick at the trunk. Is this true and does anyone know of someone who had it removed?

I've heard that they are a protected tree and there is a large fine for cutting them down.

Once a tree is over a certain size, doesn't one need approval from ?? to have it removed? Thought there was something about that included in CC&R's.
Are you talking about that or companies that do tree removal? |
I tried to get one removed last year. I went to the architectural committee. They sent out an arborist, took pictures and determined the tree was healthy and not infringing or a danger to my house. I was refused removal. There will always be tree trimmers who skirt the law and will take it down for you but I wouldn't take the chance of a fine.

We have a magnificent huge oak in our yard and we love it. If I don't own it, then who pays to maintain it? We have an arborist to clean it and take out dead wood. Once a crew took a whole day and removed truckloads of moss and deadwood. Do I get to send that bill to someone?:undecided:
