If you apply the Rules of the Road as you do with your Car, you can't go wrong.

So few do :gc:

It's important of course to read the info provided by Bogie. Also, I recommend taking out your cart each day for a relaxed drive when you have nowhere to go! I didn't want to make mistakes because I was hurrying to an activity. Oh, and take your Map of golf-cart paths.

Watch where other carts go to enter tunnels, sometimes it's across the road. I went each day in a different direction for longer each time, until I was confident I could navigate safely to shopping, the town squares, Savanah Center, etc. That's when I started using my cart to get places!

And when you get lost, just pull over and someone will come along and offer help. Wrinklies are great that way!

VHA has a golf cart safety meeting at Savannah Center 3rd Wednesday each month at 10:00. Sumter County Sheriff department and Lady Lake are there to answer all your questions.

Either lead, follow, or get off of the cart :MOJE_whot:

In reguards to navigating around TV check out the " cartingthevillages.com " website. Great map or satellite view of cart paths and streets. Very well done site and lots of good info.

Google maps is a fantastic GPS application. Select bicycle as mode of transportation and it navagates you on the paths. I use it daily and it's perfect

This is a BIG place. It is very difficult to find everything at first...or much of anything at first. When you have driven your car and become acclimated than driving your cart is a whole different operation. You have to learn that new way.

Please read what Barefoot said above.

We didn't buy a cart for several months when we first came here. AND that was in 2006, The Villages is much bigger now.

When the high season starts some time in the next couple of months you will feel the population increasing, and the sirens increasing too. Be VERY careful out there and drive defensively. There are a lot of untrained drivers who didn't start on a tractor like some of us did. The people who always took cabs and subways are some of the most dangerous group and they have lots of misplaced confidence.

There are those then, who will start blaming bad driving on age. We all have our personal reasons why we think one group or another is to blame and we all know how to push each other's buttons.

I can just say that you will find that some people believe that stopping at stop signs and red lights is a matter of choice.

I have had a cart driver go around me at a stop sign.

When you venture out you must be very careful in January, February and March. Many of us try to stay off the roads then as much as possible, particularly if our grandkids adore us.

People from Ohio rarely honk their horns, but one lady from Ohio may get out of her car if you honk at her at a stopsign, and walk back and strangle you.

I know what you mean Gracie. I tried to remember how old I was when I learned to drive a tractor. A full sized International Harvester was my first training wheels.
