I think you're right. Keep in mind that carts and LSVs would go through there at full speed. If you're in a car, you stop at the gate. Then if you want to turn right onto the villa street, you sometimes have to come to a stop to make sure that no cart or LSV is passing you on the right.
If you were coming from the opposite direction, and wanted to turn left onto the villa street, you couldn't see the carts/LSVs coming. They were obscured by the gate and wouldn't slow down at all. Sometimes I would start my turn and then have to hit the brakes fast when a cart or LSV came speeding through.
20 or 25 miles per hour seems very fast when the distance is short.
I never complained about it to anyone but I sure am happy they put in that golf cart gate.
