Family's Ancestral Home

Just thought I would share this - my ancestors came to the US in 1827 from the Isle of Man (between England and Ireland). They sold their ancestral home there to come over.

Recently came across a real estate listing for the place - fascinating! Here is a picture and link to the brochure for any history buffs. Wish I had 2,750,000 pounds to buy it!

Beautiful home. Wish you could buy it.

You should go on a vacation to see it. I wonder if they do Lifestyle Visits?

Beautiful place. I had a French teacher in high school whose ancestral home was in France, and she had been saving all her life to buy it back. I don't think she ever did.

Rented this home for several years in England. It came with a caretaker, a gardener, an orchard, a vegetable garden, and three greenhouses. We were so lucky to get it. The owners were in Australia, and really just wanted someone to live there, so the rent was well within our budget.

Now, for ancestral, my father inherited this home in Mississippi and I was born in it. Unfortunately. ole Dad liked his Early Times and failed to hold on the the place. It is in good hands now, though

Nice Georgian Home. Do you know where on the Island it is? I have a friend from Laxey just south of Ramsey.

I wish I had more pictures of the homes of any of my ancestors. Three years ago, I was fortunate to see the home built by my Great x 5 grandfather on the Island Of Eigg, Scotland in 1762, Kildonan House and he is interred in the old churchyard closeby.

Wow! That's a priceless discovery!
The Ancestral home is on the western side of the Isle of Man, toward the south. About 2 miles east of Peel. I've been to Ramsey to see the big red wheel, and rode horses on the hills overlooking sheep pastures. A beautiful place, full of folk lore. The taxi driver took me over a little bridge and told me that we both had to say "Hello" to the fairies under the bridge.

Thanks. The current owners have had it for quite a while, and have been wonderful stewards. They have registered it as a historical building. I knocked on their door about eight years ago, and told them who I was. They were very gracious and showed me around. I was actually able to give them some missing information and some old photos to help them in the restoration. I even got to eat figs from the same tree as I had when I was a first grader.

I lived in the UK for about 12 years, and although I wanted to go to the Isle of Man, but never got around to it. Your post has rekindled my desire to visit there.

You should tour the antebellum homes in Natchez, Mississippi during their spring and fall pilgrimages!
