This news surprises me!

I found 19 Registered Sex Offenders within 3 miles of my home!:cry:
(The Villages, safe??)

I think that you'd probably find that no matter where you live. When was the last time you heard of a sex crime being committed in the Villages.

Sex offenders can be a lot of different things. Did you know for example if a 17 year old boy has consensual sex with a girl under the age of 14, he can be convicted of statutory rape and have to be registered as a sex offender.

I think that the Villages are one of the safest communities in the United States and I think that statistics will back that up.

Not all sexual offenses are equal nor should all offenses require one to register as an offense. I know of a man who had consensual sex with his 15 YO girl friend when he was 19. He was charged with statutory rape and now must register for the rest of his life. He and his "girl friend" just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

Also, be sure you're using a police website, not one labeled as "sex offenders." One such site showed three "offenders" living in the lake/golf course off of Enrique.

yeah, well pull that offender list up anywhere and weep. as an expert in child sexual abuse, I assure you there's likely a perp walking down most streets. TV isn't immune but we are probably well under average for offenders in the population.

Yeah, Dee, I did mental health in a prison with 18 yo men who unluckily had their birthday after their 17 yo girlfriend got pregnant.
thanks for the post..

It is scary if you have visiting grandchildren....or expect to have any child at all visiting. Can't be too safe nowadays. We do need to protect out children from these predators. If you read the explicit details, most have been accused of acts with underaged minors. Most look like dirty old men.

I do recall they all looked pretty seedy looking.........the last time I viewed the site......again, I haven't looked in awhile...........but I totally "get" where you are coming from. I guess predators age and retire just like the rest of us..........but it is too close for comfort. I checked our various towns up here and there were not as many as in THE VILLAGES.

Some have suggested that they came to live with their "parents".....well, the ones I saw way back then....must have had parents as old as Methuselah. Many were repeat offenders. I'll have to check it out again.

please don't count on seedy looking dirty old men as a way of protecting your little ones. offenders come in every package and are USUALLY trusted family members. you won't believe me...but it's nevertheless true.

This is a good site for seeing registered sex offenders. Results can be seen by List or by Map by clicking that above the address you put in to search on.

National Sex Offender Registry - Family Watchdog

This site is good for listing all arrests chronologically and they are mapped:

SpotCrime Crime Map
