Excessive Exhaust Odor - EZGO Golf Cart
 

Trying to help a widow who just moved to The Villages. She believes the gas fumes from her 2006 EZGO are causing headaches. Any suggestions for reducing the smell? Will an extender help reduce the smell and if so, where to acquire a tailpipe extender locally?

Just a thought, if the tailpipe exits under the rear bumper, you may experience the "station wagon" effect where the fumes may be coming back into the cart from the rear as you are driving. Many gas carts have the exhaust pipe exit out the side of the cart in front of the rear tire to lessen the fumes coming in. You may wish to contact a golf cart mechanic and have him modify your exhaust pipe of install an extender.

sometimes folks have their gas mixture set too rich to get the cart to go faster...that will cause more unburnt fuel to be in the exhaust and raises the smell factor significantly.

Make sure she is not using too high of an octane fuel which will pass through the engine unburned. Lots of folks think they are helping their engine by buying premium gas, but all they are doing is wasting their money. This is not an opinion, it is a well documented fact. Carbon monoxide is odorless, so if you can smell exhaust you are likely burning oil or not burning all the fuel efficiently.
