New battery for Dell laptop won't charge
 

I bought an after market battery from Amazon for a Dell XPS M1530 and it will not charge.

The laptop works fine when plugged in....it also works when running off the battery (not plugged in).

The little battery icon shows 28% battery life....plugged....not charging.

Could it be a new defective battery?

I think I remember being told to remove the battery and unplug the laptop. Then hold the power button down for a minute. Then insert the battery, plug in the laptop, and see if it will charge normally. It is supposed to reset the battery charging sensor, or something.
