need advice on mail delivery
we will be first time renters dec and jan.....i saw post on mail delivery being forwarded etc....but cant find it any advice?
|
Call me crazy, but wouldn't a call to the postmaster in the zip you will be renting in provide the most reliable answers ??

You can log on the USPS.com and do a change of address there. They charge a dollar to your cc just to make sure it is you. Very simple. Also make sure you are getting the mailbox key from your landlord and the mailbox number as it doesn't coincide with your mailing address at your rental.

Landlords don't always give you access to the mailbox. It's best to check with the homeowner and find out what other tenants have done.

6 month minimum
The post office will not deliver mail to an address for less than 6 months. You can lie and say you are staying that long or you can do it the right way which is to rent a PO box in Oxford, Lady Lake, or Wildwood and have your mail sent there as a temporary forward.

thanks for this info..............po box sound like the way to go

if its just your bills you are worried about i would just go paperless for them and then you have no worries

Catch 22
I was a fill in letter carrier earlier in my retirement. I went through all the letter carrier training. What a nightmare of a job but that's another story. lol
Yes you can do a temporary mail forward for less than 6 months HOWEVER you cannot establish a physical delivery address for less than 6 months, I know it is crazy but we are talking about the government. To do it legitimately you have to set up a PO box and pay a six month rental. ASK the post master where you live for the straight scoop don't listen to "experts" on the internet. The previous post with a link to USPS dot com is only half the story the temporary forward. It doesn't mention a temporary delivery! :a040: |
Another way to go is to have the PO where your currently at send all your mail down once a week. Some go this route. There is a fee but don't know what the charge is---check with your local PO. Good luck.
