I pose this question for those who own a home in TV...if you could afford to keep your home up north or wherever, would you to get away from the heat of the summer?

Nope. For the most part, I have not noticed the heat here in the summer much worse, if any, than it was in VA.

I moved here in January, this year from Michigan. I am very happy with the weather here, and all summer long, my wife and i were out every day, in the pool, walking in the morning, driving around in our golf carts, and the heat did not bother us. Our summers in Michigan were much to short, (if we really had one, sometimes we did not), this year my friend who stays in Mi. during the summer said it was terrible. Finally to answer your question, no, no, no, we would not go back to get out of the summer heat. We could not wait to come here, after visiting for a few weeks every year for 5 years. we are frogs.:spoken:

If I had the final say, yes, I'd have two places. Summers here are hot and I seldom get out of the house. Asthma kicks up in the heat and there's nothing like cooling off in Lake Michigan on an afternoon.

in my opinion the need to get away from the heat discussion about living in FL is way, WAY over blown.

There were as many days over 90 in Knoxville, TN this year as there were in FL.

Last summer there were more day over 90 in the Knoxville area than there was in TV.

First it is over blown.
Second your body will adjust....surprisingly how much so.
Thirdly I don't care where one lives or how hot or cold there will always be a dsicussion about how hot is hot and how cold is cold.

For me it is easy. If there are no palm trees in my yard/neighborhood I am definitely too far north!!

I like having a place up north. Not just to escape the heat and humidity. Yes it can get hot and humid up north for 2 or 3 weeks. But not 90-95 from April - September. It is great to putz around in the garden and yard, but leave when it gets chilly in late October. Produce grown up here such as tomatoes have much more flavor than what is grown in FL. I guess it is the soil.
Today it was a beautiful 79, sunny, with low humidity. The trees are just starting to change color. Just drove back north the past 2 days.

We haven't moved full time yet, but, plan A was sell house build up north for the summer. Plan B was sell house buy house up north for the summer. Plan C is now: sell house move to TV and upsize from our PV. Visit grand kids and vacation to other areas if too hot.
1 year 362 days until fulltime. (not that I'm counting)

No, I wouldn't do that just to get away from the summer heat. There would have to be some other attraction besides that.

Beautiful Ohio. In dreams again I see, visions of what used to be."

We just returned from Ohio. I would like to have two homes if our two grandchildren were still little, but one is in his last year of college and the other is working her dream job. Our daughter is so busy with work and civic theatre, there isn't much time for much else.

I love Ohio, it is very beautiful and the people are what I am used to, but I am very happy here. We have spent three summers here and I think the quieter times, even with the heat are my favorite.

I also find that when I am close to those I love a lot, I start worrying about the weather, and their driving in it and a lot of stuff, I don't need to worry about.

A little distance sometimes helps with those kinds of worries.

No - I'm very happy here in the summer. I have a comparison of weather with Ohio on my home page and there is little difference. When we decided to stay here full time we did add a pool - that was our concession to being here in the summer. And I do enjoy it. Actually I find temps a bit cool here in January and February and that's when I prefer to leave the bubble for vacation in warmer spots. We are so spoiled being out in the fresh air each day.

Probably not, you really do get used to the heat. Yes it is hot but I shoveled a lot of snow without a coat.

Yes, if I could afford it, I'd have a place near the ocean on Cape Cod or the New Hampshire seacoast for about three month, June 15- Sept 15. Mostly just to be near my family for a few months.

I would not want another place..too much hassle...but would consider renting and going someplace/s different seasonally.

In short, I will if it makes sense
 

For the foreseeable future, I believe we will likely be seasonal residents as long as we can manage it financially and our health permits it.

As we are under agreement to sell our home in MA, I have been thinking about this quite a bit lately. I have been in TV through July and did not think the heat would be a reason I would leave, it does bother my wife more than me. I imagine the weather pattern gets a bit boring after a few months :shrug:.

I agree with what Kitty said with one exception. If I could find the right place, I may consider owning. As an example my Dad has a small cottage in the "Campground" of Martha's Vineyard. See link for what I mean by campground.

He can walk to town or the harbor, most residents are seasonal, the houses are closer together than TV!. If I could manage to have a cute place in that type area I would love to. Maybe get me a little boat for some fishing....

If we close :pray:, we have 8 months or so to decide our next 'seasonal' adventure. If we go the route of renting, we have talked about picking a different place yearly, maybe Seattle, Maine, or Canada, many many places we have never "lived".

Keep the second home. Ours is a condo in Harbor Springs, MI.
We lock the door behind us and it waits patiently for our return 9 months later.
Been doing it since we moved to FL in 2004 and won't give it up for at least another 20 years when I'm 79 and the 21 hour drive becomes too much.
