Galaxy Reviews

I saw Galaxy 3D today. the 3D space scenes were imaginative and visually watchable..probably only in 3D.
Clooney does a more or less cameo of a cardboard hero in a spacesuit (think Buzz Lightyear.) Bullock makes endless noises of heavy breathing and grunts meant to sound like she is desperately on her last breath, and manages to sound like a porn soundtrack.
The plot, what plot? Bullock surmounts insurmountable survival challenges as an astronaut with 6 months training and 0 experience on a spacewalk/repair mission gone awry--a plot that will confound any viewer hoping for a shred of credibility.
btw there's nobody in the film but George in cameo and Bullock panting.
I saw it so you don't have to.

Yikes!
I think that's the 1st bad review of Gravity I've seen. I've been meaning to catch it.

Well I didn't read any reviews before I went, so my impression is definitely my own. Would like to hear how my viewpoint differs from folks who enjoyed it. Maybe I was hearing my mother's voice, "A film is just a piece of plastic running across a light bulb."

Many of the reviews are raves...this person's review is well in line with my failure to identify with this picture..

Kitty, I totally agree with you. Hubby and I saw it last Sat. and I was going to comment about it on TOTV but decided I would keep quiet. Now that someone else feels the same as me, I don't feel so quiet anymore! lol Not worth the extra 3D cost either. Just my opinion, oh yea, Kitties too!!

It isn't in my top 100 of worst films ever but I definitely did not enjoy it. Actually got bored with the beautiful scenes of earth, Bullock's breathing and the interminable solitude with 5 minutes of action repeated repeatedly (yes, that was deliberate). My parting shot as I was leaving the movie was, "No wonder Clooney was in a hurry to leave this movie." (Wouldn't have put that in but Kitty already more or less gave it away.)

Forgot to mention that Bullock can definitely give Meg Ryan a run for her money in the heavy breathing department (but I won't have what Bullock is having in this movie).

Like the spacesuit scene in 2001:A Space Odyssey where there's about 10 minutes of nothing but deep breathing!?

You guys are in the minority, which I sometimes find myself but not this time. On IMDB so far 38,000 reviewers have given it an average rating of 8.7, I don't remember ever seeing a movie higher than the low 8's before. I would have to agree with the majority, I thought it was terrific. Maybe you didn't see it in 3D, that certainly enhanced the film. I felt at times like you were enveloped within the scene. The visuals really made the film and without 3D it would be lacking somewhat, but I did find it pretty intense at times. I'm not a big sci-fi fan, never seen any Star Trek movies and only a couple of Star Wars, and didn't care for 2001 Space Odyssey all that much. So I'm somwhat amazed that a few have come away with such a negative view of the film. I also really enjoy 'Prisoners' and 'Blue Jasmine', in fact these were the last three films I've seen and I have never rated three films that high before.

Dee, I noticed going out that Bullock has top billing over Clooney and rightly so. I went to see the usual charm from the two of them and looked forward to seeing a great film built around that. Nobody could have done their parts better, there just wasn't much to work with. If I had had in mind to see a 3D technically brilliant riot in space, I wouldn't have been disappointed. I missed Bullock's girl-next-door humor most of all, and secondly watching Clooney in an impossibly phony role was sad.

I love sci fi in all genres. I've enjoyed Bullock and Clooney in many movies and was hoping for a Hanks/Ryan or a modern-day Hepburn/Tracy mix. That being said, I had my doubts about this movie -- I just really don't see either of these two doing good sci fi. Wished I'd been wrong.

I'm glad a lot of people liked this movie and I wish I had been one of them; I was certainly hoping to be one of them. From comments I heard when leaving the theater, I'd say it was about 50-50. And I don't care if the scenery is a bunch of pretty trees, a gorgeous waterfall or earth from space -- it gets old fast when it's all you see, except for things floating in space stations.
