Pajama/Book Drive
 

Has anyone noticed the RED boxes in all of the Recreation Centers in The Villages? The 5th Annual Pajama/Book Drive has begun. This event is sponsored by The Villages Girl Scout Alumnae -- Silver Trefoil in conjunction with the Sumter/Lake County United Way and the Marion County United Way. Our goal is to collect 5000 new, unwrapped pajamas and 2500 new, unwrapped books from October 1-December 12 to give to the 5200 homeless children of Lake, Sumter and Marion counties. Your support will mean a homeless child will carry with them, as they move from place to place, a possession we think of as common place, but something they may not have. The next time you have the opportunity to enter one of our recreation centers, please consider putting a set of pajamas or a book in the RED box. It's a feel good thing to do.Thanks.

Great idea. Is there any sort of age range for sizes or kind of books?

Yes, the sizes for the pj's are infant through 17 years. We need more adult sizes. T-shirts and sweat pants work really well for these kids. Thanks for asking.

children's books are quite cheap at Sam's Club

Childrens books need to be brand new? Sometimes the library has a book sale.
