TILES IN THE LANIE

WHEN WE MOVE DOWN IN SEPTEMBER AND BUY A VILLA WE WERE THINKING OF PUTTING TILE IN THE LANIE. DO YOU NEED ANY SPECIAL TILES TO DO THIS? DO YOU NEED SKID PROOF OR SLIP PROOF? I WOULD BE STARTING FROM SCRATCH SO ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL. THANKS... THE KAR GUY

remember, sun and bare feet. If the Lanai is open to Florida sun, it will reach 120 degrees under foot. Careful :yikes:

Will your lanai be enclosed? If so, you can go with tile. Ceramic or porcelain, both will do fine. If not enclosed, you may want to keep the concrete but have it painted.

I was told, by a tile store, that if you painted the floor and later enclosed it and wanted to tile the paint would have to be removed!

That's interesting! We just had our lanai tiled a week ago and they did not remove the paint.

My husband tiled our lanai with 19" square travertine and it is beautiful. The lanai is enclosed so there is no problem. Now, he also tiled our front porch (we have an Amarillo) and it is only screened in. When the rain blows in there is no place for the water to go so it sits there and we have to mop it up. Pain in the you know what! We are now in the process of having clear acrylic sliders installed on the front porch. I like to use both the lanai and the porch because we have the sun in the morning out front and the setting sun on the lanai at night.

I tiled our lanai myself and we love it. Our lanai is open and when it rains hard it gets pretty wet but I drilled a few drain holes at the edge and within an hour or so after a rain it is dry.
