Replacing sliders with french doors
 

I have a 6' slider going to enclosed lanai that I want to replace with French doors. I want the doors to open into the house rather than the lanai so it will probably require the opening be made larger. Looking for someone that knows what they are doing at a reasonable price. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Would the French doors opening into the home be against code? In case of fire I thought the doors had to open out. Good luck.

Because the French doors would no long be exterior doors, I wonder if it would matter which way they open vis-a-vis code.

The Villages Home Warranty Office at 352-753-6222 can often recommend contractors. We used someone they recommended a few years back to knock out a wall, and we were very satisfied with the price and the result.

Never saw an exterior door that opened out other than a storm or screen door.

There is no code that requires the doors to swing out. It is a better seal if they do swing out but you can do either.

The opening probably does NOT have to be modified. If it is a 6' sliding glass door you are replacing, there are numerous replacement french doors available that will fit into that opening. The best one on the market is by Neuma Door. It is more costly but I never have issues with it.

As far as a contractor, I do not know who in the area can install.

If you have drapes or other coverings, opening to the inside may be a problem.

No drapes or other coverings. More room for them to stay open in an inward position.

We had that done when we enclosed our lanai. The doors open into the living room to keep the space available in the lanai area. We really love them. They have built in horizontal louvres which raise and lower. The work was done by Brian Frietag or B&J (352) 516-0668 who has done work for others on TOTV.
