WIFI Provider for The Villages?
 

Does anyone know of a reasonable wifi provider? We have a part time home, not willing to do a bundle with tv and phone. Too expensive for the months we aren't there. We have only basic tv and basic land line phone . Don't want dial up from villages.net
When we visit I use a 3G toggle for my laptop and pay as we go service
from Virgin Mobile which works very well for us. They tell me they don't provide 4G for our area. A month of service runs $30. But we have an issue.....someone who wants to rent our villa doesn't have a laptop - wants to use their tablet (IPOD) and the tablets don't have
a port to install the toggle or we would provide one for them (They run $20)
so I can see us losing our ability to rent the unit for the one month we rent it out all year now and in the future as folks bring tablets instead of laptops with them. I would like to find a wifi provider that you can get a good signal from for no more than $10-$15 a month. Thanks.

I have NO idea if this would work. If a neighbor has internet would they allow you to pay for a wireless router to be placed as close as possible to your home. You would select the password only to be used by your renters. You would also pay them a fee for hosting to offset the electric cost and space used and that it might (I have no idea) slow down their own system. How well such a device would work would depend on the exact location of the user. I think you would have the option of installing a stronger or directional antenna on the router and a repeater within your unit to increase the range of the signal. I also have no idea if this would violate any agreement the neighbor has with the internet provider.

I am looking into a pay as you go wifi hotspot from virgin mobile ( I use their toggle now) the hotspot costs about $80 online and their plan is 5GB of 3g service
(they don't have 4g service in our area) for $55. This would be good for the times we are there so I could use my tablet and also I could prepay for the month the renters are there. Does anyone use this type of equipment? Any success with it? Some folks
aren't computer literate and I don't want phone calls all month if they experience connection problems.

I have a wireless hotspot it works great I use it here in the villages for my Internet connection take it to the Square have Internet access. You might want to talk to one of your neighbors and see if you paid for the Internet for the month that your renters are here it would probably be much easier for you a lot less hassle Just to share off of their wireless What ever you do do not buy a D-Link router get a Linksys they work great and you have no hassles. Some will say a D-Link works fine we have an apartment complex up north and we have done this and we have had great success with Linksys.

What brand wireless hotspot do you have? We would use it the seven months we are back and forth between TV and home up in Georgia,
so it wouldn't be a waste. The only issue I have is that I would need the renters to be able to connect to it without it being installed on their ipad
because I wouldn't want them using my credit card info to buy more time.

If you have a cell phone with data, many phones have a feature that allows you to get online with your laptop. That is what the kids do.

Many of my friends have that as well. But with no kids and no grandkids we don't have cellphones like that.

Not sure if cost effective for you, but the Verizon HotSpot works fine in The Villages.

you can get wifi in the regional rec centers by logging on with a resident card and pin number.
